Spring Magic

Soft as the morning, light as the breeze,

Sweet is the chirping of the birds in the trees.

Springing to life, green poking through,

Buds forming on flowers through sunshine and dew.

New life is forming.  Ah yes, weeds are too.

Springtime is magic, comes right on cue!

Slowly at first, like a big tease,

The grandstands are full of red robins in trees.

‘It’s the Greatest Show on Earth,’ nature’s coming alive!

Better than a circus, spring’s some to life.

-- Karen Barth

Update on Montana PGM Shirley Gabrielson …

Just wanted to give you the latest up date on my mom, Shirley Gabrielson.  She has moved out of Hillside Manor in Missoula to live with my brother Jim and his wife Annisa.  They live on the outskirts of town at 5610 Lavoie Lane, just off Mullen Road.  Her phone number there is 406-327-7869.  Jim will set up her email shortly.  Mom is very anxious to keep in touch with everyone.

It was August 31st when she fell ill, and still her legs are weak and she needs a wheelchair to get around.  We were hoping daily physical therapy would get her up and about again!  Mentally, she has recovered very nicely.  She sometimes can’t find the word she is looking for (like me too!) and when she gets really tired she gets a little fuzzy but now she is ready to “get on with life”.

She will miss the wonderful people at Hillside and the activities which she enjoyed very much.  Jim and Annisa plan on keeping her busy.  Jim is switching to night shifts so that he can be home with her during the day and then Annisa will be home with her evenings and nights.  They invite everyone to call, email, and stop by.  Or call and they can meet you for coffee somewhere.  Mom loves to go out and about.  (And I’m certain that Jim and Annisa would appreciate a little break once in awhile too.)

Thanks to everyone again, for your prayers, kind thoughts, cards, emails, and stopping by to visit these past several months.  Your love has been so important to her recuperation!  She dearly, dearly loves each one of her Eastern Star brothers and sisters.

 God Bless,
Kari Jagodinzksi, Shirley’s Daughter

Masonic License plates …

It is a fact that the Dept of Licensing will now take orders for vanity plates using the Let Kids Speak back ground.  From this point forward you can put your favorite name or letters on the Masonic License plate.

The one exception to this rule is that they cannot put ham radio call signs on the Masonic License plates because they are a special issue plate with a special set of rules.

Something to think about …

A friend of mine shared this with me and it got me thinking. I thought that I would send it to you so that the rest of the members of Eastern Star in Washington could take it to heart and I hope that it inspires them as it has me.
** Kimberly Williams, Associate Matron, Nesika Chapter #54

Some members keep their Chapters strong,
While others join and just belong,
Some dig right in, some serve with pride,
Some go along, just for the ride.

Some volunteer to do their share,
While some lay back and just don't care;
On meeting nights some always show
While there are those who never go.

Some always pay their dues ahead,
Some get behind for months, instead.

Some do their best, some build, some make,
Some never give, but always take,
Some drag, some pull, some don't, some do.

CONSIDER, which of these are you?

Invitation to IRS classes …

The Internal Revenue Service is now requiring all non-profit organizations to file a form every year, regardless of whether you made a profit or not.  Due to these changing requirements, we have arranged for our Grand Treasurer, Katie Glessing to come to the May 18th Southwest Association meeting at the Chehalis Masonic Center, 123 West Main Street.  She will give an explanation as to the procedures for filing the new non-profit organizational tax form, #990N.  This class will start at 11:00 a.m. and is open to everyone.  However, we do encourage the Worthy Matrons, Worthy Patrons, Secretaries and Treasurer’s to attend.  It would be advantageous if the Social Club Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers attended also.

Therefore, you are cordially invited to attend the Southwest Association meeting on May 18, 2008 at the Chehalis Masonic Center.  There is a pot-luck dinner served at 1:00 p.m.  Please bring your favorite dish and enjoy the food and friendship.  There will be a meeting at 2:00 p.m.  We hope you will stay and attend this, also.  This Association is open to all members and we encourage you to attend.

Invitation …

Thank you so much, for considering using the article on Supreme Session Daughters of the Nile. Everyone in the Masonic Orders are invited for the Installation on June 19, at 6:00 PM in the Opera House at the Seattle Center when Muriel V. Knapp will be installed as Supreme Queen.
** Jean Peterson, Past Queen, Member of Ferndale Chapter (formerly of Nooksack Chapter #171).

LET A SMILE BE YOUR UMBRELLA SUPREME SESSION, Sunday June 15 through Thursday June 19, Seattle, WA.

The excitement is building for Hatasu Temple No. One and their membership who are hosting the 92nd annual convention of Supreme Temple Daughters of the Nile in Seattle. Over 2100 people are registered to attend the activities, coming from 147 temples throughout the United States and Canada.  Delegates, members, and friends will start arriving in Seattle as early as June 10 and will be housed in many of the downtown and Seattle Center hotels.  Registrants have expressed an excitement about coming to Seattle and have signed up for local tours and the numerous planned banquets and luncheons.  A highlight of the convention will be the opening ceremony when all of the reigning queens from the 147 temples enter McCaw Hall at the Seattle Center, wearing the official crown representing their temple and escorted by their uniformed units.  Music is much a part of the festivities and the drummers from Sapphira Temple No. 79 Helena, Montana, will keep things going at a lively pace.

Zarah Temple No. 72, in Vancouver, BC has advised they will be bringing down two busloads of members for the festivities.  Zarah Temple is noted for their enthusiastic presentation including the pageantry and the oriental band, always adorned with beautiful bright-colored costumes that glitter with sparkles.

Muriel V. Knapp, Supreme Princess Royal and Past Queen of Hatasu Temple, will be installed as Supreme Queen on Thursday, June 19 at McCaw Hall. She has visited many of the temples in the US and Canada and is highly regarded by the membership.  As president of the Board of Directors of the Supreme Temple, Daughters of the Nile Foundation, she has spearheaded, and oversees, the 501-3 (c) donations, investments and distribution. Employed as a senior paralegal with Microsoft, her company will match her hours, donating to the Daughters philanthropy; the outpatients care at the Shrine Hospitals for Children.

A special scheduled event to kick off the week of festivities is a cruise to Blake Island on Saturday night, June 14, 2008, for their famous Indian Salmon dinner.  For information and reservations for the Blake Island evening, contact General Chairman, Judy Smith at (425) 486-4496.

NEWS BITS & PIECES

ONLY IN AMERICA:

GOOD WEEK FOR:

Fat guys, after the Florida Marlins held tryouts for a new cheerleading squad called the Manatees, which will consist entirely of overweight – but limber – men!

Los Angeles, which was judged to have the best-tasting tap water in the world at the 18th Annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting.

BAD WEEK FOR:

American Ingenuity, after a Wisconsin man used a torch to clear the snow from his driveway, setting fire to a garage door.  Police estimated damage to the garage and two vehicles inside at $20.000.

The squeamish, after the UN sponsored a conference in Thailand to promote the eating of bugs.  Scientists said 1,400 species of high-protein crickets, grubs, and other creepy-crawlies could help large populations survive a famine.  ‘It’s excellent food,’ said Dutch entomologist Arnold van Huis, urging Western aid agencies ‘to take a different attitude toward this!’

Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,

Here once the embattled farmers stood,

JOKES

Children's Logic:

She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter as she'd done many times before.  After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, 'But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!'

My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, '62.'He was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, 'Did you start at 1?'

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, 'Who was THAT?'

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like: 'We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard.  We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.' The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, ‘I sure wish I'd gotten to know you sooner!'

My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, 'Grandma, do you know how you and God are alike?' I mentally polished my halo while I asked, 'No, how are we alike?'  'You're both old,' he replied.

A little girl was diligently pounding away on her grandfather's word processor. She told him she was writing a story.' What's it about?' he asked. 'I don't know,' she replied.  'I can't read.'

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, 'Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!'
