September
By Helen Hunt Jackson (1830 - 1885)

The goldenrod is yellow,
The corn is turning brown;
The trees in the apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusky pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook side
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grape's sweet orders rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here;
With summer's best of weather
And autumn's best of cheer.

MESSAGE FROM OUR WORTHY GRAND MATRON

(9/22)  Good Saturday morning,
    Last night, WGP Phil Green and I, along with 14 of the Magic Moments Grand Officers and escorts, traveled to Sunnyside where we performed a Merger Ceremony for the joining of Seople Chapter No. 133 into Sunnyside Chapter No. 134.  A nice group of Sisters and Brothers from the surrounding chapters were in attendance.  The members held a delicious potluck dinner prior to the meeting that was enjoyed by all.  It was a memorable evening as these two chapters joined as one to be the heart of Eastern Star in this central Yakima Valley region.  Best wishes from all members of the Grand Chapter of Washington for a happy future.

MESSAGES FROM MY MAILBOX ...

Resignation of Right Worthy Grand Secretary of the General Grand Chapter -
COVER LETTER FROM MOST WORTHY GRAND MATRON, BARBARA BENTON:
September 16, 2007
My dear Sisters and Brothers:
    The letter of resignation from Bonnie Poindexter, Right Worthy Grand Secretary and Tommy Poindexter, Temple Administrator, has been received by your Most Worthy Grand Matron.  I am sure you are taking a deep breath (as I did) after reading their letter and also saddened of their leaving the International Headquarters.
    Bonnie and Tommy have accomplished great things in the four years they were in the International Headquarters in Washington, DC.  We, as members of this great Order, thank them for what they did, and for who they are.  We rejoiced with Bonnie when she was elected Right Worthy Grand Secretary at the Triennial Assembly in Portland, Oregon, in 2003 and we rejoice again with her as she returns home to live and love their wonderful family and friends in Tennessee.  No one deserves a happy life anymore than Bonnie and Tommy.
    Until replacements can be made for the Right Worthy Grand Secretary and the Temple Administrator, please direct correspondence, orders, questions, etc. as you always have--by calling the office, writing or emailing.  Your patience in my making a selection for two important jobs will be appreciated.
Affectionately,
Barbara Benton, MWGM

    We are going home to live and love our wonderful family and friends.  We both thank you for the wonderful memories.

Food for thought ...
 ... Then the WP read the last paragraph from Rob Morris speech :
    In closing, I quote from Rob Morris at a speech he made to the Grand Chapter of New York in 1873: "Everything in Masonry must stand upon it's own merits. If the Eastern Star satisfies the demands of the age, IT WILL LIVE. Men may say what they please against it, -- it will live, and will become an institution in the land. That it has done good already, I know. That it has a capacity for good, a thousand times greater, I honestly believe. Therefore, let us adhere to it patiently, do it's work faithfully, and in due time we shall receive our reward if we faint not."

IMPORTANT!!!
Don't Tax Our Web
Defending the Internet from Duplicative, Discriminatory and Hidden taxes!

    We received this flyer through either Verizon or MCI with our last bill and it states:
Dear Valued Consumer,
    Your Internet access has always been tax free.  But if Congress doesn't act by November 1, the government can start taxing Internet access.  Taxes on your phone, wireless and cable bills are already too high.  Help keep the Internet tax free.  Americans want more access and lower prices for high-speed Internet services.  Regulating and taxing Internet use isn't the answer.
Please log on to http://www.donttaxourweb.org/actnow/ today and send a message to your representatives in the House and senate.  AMERICA NEEDS A PERMANENT TAX-FREE INTERNET.
    I got onto the website, signed my name and answered some questions!  I personally don't need or want anymore taxes!  I wonder if we would be taxed by messages sent?  If so ... would the STARS be in jeopardy?

Thought this might interest my fellow veterans ...

            WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today praised the passage by unanimous consent of his bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S. law to allow veterans and servicemen not in uniform to salute the flag. Current law (US Code Title 4, Chapter 1) states that veterans and servicemen not in uniform should place their hand over their heart without clarifying whether they can or should salute the flag. "The salute is a form of honor and respect, representing pride in one's military service," Senator Inhofe said.

            "Veterans and service members continue representing the military services even when not in uniform.  ”Unfortunately, current U.S. law leaves confusion as to whether veterans and service members out of uniform can or should salute the flag. My legislation will clarify this regulation, allowing veterans and servicemen alike to salute the flag, whether they are in uniform or not. "I look forward to seeing those who have served saluting proudly at baseball games, parades, and formal events. I believe this is an appropriate way to honor and recognize the 25 million veterans in the
United States who have served in the military and remain as role models to others citizens. Those who are currently serving or have served in the military have earned this right, and their recognition will be an inspiration to others." This Bill was passed July 25, 2007. Let your veteran friends know about the Passage of this Bill.
