How True it is

Another year has passed
and we all are a little older
Last summer felt hotter
and winter seems much colder.

I rack my brain for happy thoughts,
to put down on my pad,
But lots of things that come to mind
just make me kind of sad.

There was a time not long ago
when life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand
about "Living in the Past".

We used to go to friends homes,
football games and lunches.
Now we go to therapy, hospitals,
and after-funeral brunches.

We used to go out dining,
and couldn't get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags,
come home and take a pill.

We used to often travel
to places near and far.
Now we get backaches
from riding in the car.

We used to go out shopping
for new clothing at the Mall
But, now we never bother...
all the sizes are too small.

That, my friend is how life is,

and now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up...
before you're too dadblamed old!!

Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger?

There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese.....
 Thumb represents your Parents
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
 Middle finger represents your-Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
Last (Little) finger represents your children

Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together - back to back..........Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip
Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)..., they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.
Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)...., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.

Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)...., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT....., because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!!

ISN'T THIS A GREAT THEORY?

MASONIC NEWS

MEET THE NEW JUNIOR GRAND WARDEN …  G. Santy Lascano

Right Worshipful Godofredo Santy Lascano was born in the Republic of the Philippines. He attended Feati University and studied Electrical Engineering.  He left the University to pursue coursework in Graphics and Commercial Arts at the Philippine College of Arts and Trades.

Santy proudly served 13 years in the United States Army. While serving in the Army, he attended the University of Maryland's European Campus and pursued a career in Computer Studies. Through the Army training program, he acquired advanced training in the field of Multimedia Graphics and Visual Communications. His excellence in the area of photography won him top awards in both the Army and in Inter-Service photographic competitions. His artistic creations also received several commendable recognitions in various art competitions. After leaving the Army, he worked for the American Diabetes Association, Washington Affiliate as Business Applications Systems Manager. He later joined The Boeing Company as an Applications Analyst for the Boeing Graphic Arts software development group.

His Masonic journey began in the Philippines, where he quickly developed great enthusiasm for, and skill in, the art of Masonic Ritual.  There he participated with an elite group of accomplished Masons known as the Grand Lodge Exemplification Team, where he specialized in the delivery of the Middle Chamber Lecture.  In this capacity, he traveled extensively throughout the Jurisdiction. His Masonic journey with the Grand Lodge of Washington began in Everett Lodge, No.137, where he was soon elected Secretary of the Lodge and served in that office from 1999 to 2001.  He was installed and served as Worshipful Master of this Lodge in 2003. His first Grand Lodge Team appointment was from MW Richard Mecartea as a member of the Electronic Lecture Committee. He was next appointed Chairman of the same committee by MW Robert Van Zee, driving the construction and release of all three Digital Video Multimedia Degree Lectures. Santy also served as the Senior Grand Deacon during MW Satoru Tashiro’s term of office. He was then appointed Deputy of the Grand Master in District No. 8, serving for MW Alvin Jorgensen and then MW Charles W. McQuery. His Lodges of membership include Everett Lodge, No. 137, in Everett; Yancey C. Blalock Lodge, No. 265, in Seattle; LuzViMinda Lodge, No. 317, in Seattle; King Solomon Lodge, No. 150 – Grand Lodge of the Philippines, and he currently serves as a volunteer Chaplain for Alpha Lodge, No. 212, in Everett. He acknowledges a great deal of gratitude in his current Masonic endeavors to the Filipino Masons of Greater Seattle, a group of Washington Masons who are enthusiastic and highly motivated in promoting the vision of this Grand Jurisdiction.

Santy’s Masonic accomplishments are, most importantly, backed by the unwavering support of his Lady Araceli, whom he married in the City of Honolulu on May 26, 1984.  They have two wonderful daughters, Noalani and Nina.  They are the three pillars of his life, providing strength, beauty, and support.  They share in Santy’s commitment to Freemasonry and are excited and honored to assist in seeing them fulfilled.

This is the man who was responsible for creating the Power Point Presentation that was used during the Emblem Ceremony that I wrote for Grand Chapter this year.  He is one very talented man ... plus a good friend!  Congratulations, Santy!

A MAN PLUCK OFF HIS SHOE & GIVE IT TO HIS NEIGHBOR

In a small town in mid-19th century America a young man said to his wife, "Mary, you have a shawl you never use. May I have it?"

She was puzzled for a few moments, but got the shawl. He thanked her and left the house. She was also suspicious, because several evenings during the past few months he had left after dinner without any explanation.  He was never gone long, and when he returned he seemed to have an inner peace about him. He said nothing, and neither did she.

About a week later, Mary was shopping in the village when she saw her shawl again. She was shocked. It was on the shoulders of a beautiful young lady. Angrily Mary followed the girl to a shabby shack. Mary knocked on the door. The girl opened it and smiled when she saw the visitor. She held the door open and Mary stomped in.  As May looked around she saw an elderly lady propped up on a cot. The lady smiled and said; "How nice of you to visit us."  Mary was stunned. She did not really know what to say. The girl asked if she could fix her a cup of tea. Mary nodded and the girl turned to put a kettle on the stove.

While the water was heating, Mary said "I do not know exactly what to say, so I will tell you the truth. I saw my shawl on your daughter and I was furious. Last week my husband asked me for it, but didn't tell me why. I still don't understand how you have it."  The mother said "We have no idea who left it. We have no idea who has been doing some nice things for us for the past several months. Perhaps now we can solve the mystery. It started soon after my husband died. We had no money and I am unable to work. And Nancy couldn't find a job. We were desperate. We had no food and no fuel. Then one morning when Nancy opened the door she found several packages of food, clothing and coal on the doorstep. You have no idea what that meant to us.

"A short time later, along with more packages, Nancy found a note telling her to see Mr. Tompkins, the lawyer, if she would like a job.  She did and Mr. Tompkins hired her. He sent a doctor to see me, and he has been coming regularly ever since. He won't take any money. And we still find packages, but have no idea where they come from."

They drank their tea and chatted pleasantly for some time. The mysterious packages were mentioned from time to time. Suddenly Mary asked: "Was your husband a Mason?"  "Yes, he was," said the lady. "He loved his Lodge. I don't think he ever missed a meeting." A short time later Mary left, promising to visit often.

After dinner that evening, Mary worked on a quilt she was making while her husband read. She looked up from her work and said "I think I learned the great secret of Masonry today."  Her husband looked at her with alarm and asked, “And what is it?" Mary answered, "To do good and not say anything about it."

The Masons of that small town had plucked off their shoes to help those in need. SHOULD WE DO ANYTHING LESS?  Millions of great men have been and are members of the Craft. Many have become truly Master Masons. But more have not. Actually, only a few Freemasons over the years literally plucked off a shoe and worked for the Fraternity. Imagine what a wonderful difference it should make throughout the world if only those millions who have received the Degrees would fulfill their obligations.  Will you ask yourself - "Have I sincerely plucked off my shoe in testimony of my fidelity to Freemasonry?”  If your answer is "No," will you consider plucking off your shoe? Will you work for your fellowman through Freemasonry? If you will, you'll make a difference for the better in today's uncertain world.

LOWRY'S HINTS
  • HINT 1 - Outside Furniture:  See a rain shower coming on? Run out and spray the outdoor furniture with cleaner, then run back inside and watch the rain do the cleaning.
  • HINT 2 - Real Silver:  To clean silver without a lot of elbow-grease, line a heatproof glass container with aluminum foil, shiny side up, add one heaping tablespoon of baking soda, and pour in enough boiling water to cover the item(s). The tarnish will collect on the foil. Remove the piece, rinse it thoroughly, and polish it with a soft cloth.
  • HINT 3 - Here's a great tip for that old golf bag you were going to toss in the garbage. Why not use it to store all your gardening tools, like hoes,
rakes, brooms etc. Not only will this keep them neat and tidy but it makes it handy to carry around with you.
  • HINT 4 - Vinegar Uses: Fabric softener and static cling reducer - use as you would liquid fabric softener.
Window cleaner - mix 1/4 cup of white vinegar in with 2 cups of water. Soak a small sponge or cloth in this, then wring it out, and store in an airtight container.  Simply wipe off spots or smears with this.
Air freshener, used with baking soda - use 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 tablespoon vinegar and 2 cups of water.  After it stops foaming, mix well, and use in a (recycled) spray bottle into the air.
Chewing gum dissolver - saturate the area with vinegar.  If the vinegar is heated, it will work faster.
Stain remover - for stains caused by grass, coffee, tea,  fruits and berries. Soak clothing in full strength vinegar.
Corn and callus remover - soak a piece of stale bread (a cloth would probably do as well) in vinegar, and tape it over the callus or corn overnight.
Age spot fader - Mix equal parts of onion juice and vinegar and use it daily on age spots. This will take a few weeks to work, just like it's expensive relative from the store.
