Why God Gave Us Friends
God Knew That Everyone Needs
Companionship And Cheer,
He Knew That People Need Someone
Whose Thoughts Are Always Near.
He Knew They Need Someone Kind
To Lend A Helping Hand.
Someone To Gladly Take The Time
To Care And Understand.
God Knew That We All Need Someone
To Share Each Happy Day,
To Be A Source Of Courage
When Troubles Come Our Way.
Someone To Be True To Us,
Whether Near Or Far Apart.

Have A Super Day ... And Thank You For Being My Friend
GRAND CHAPTER OF WASHINGTON ORDER OF THE EASTERN STAR
May 4, 2007
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
Grand Chapter is approaching very fast and I hope many of you are
planning on attending. I want to bring to your attention that there
is a misprint about the Stars and Stripes Forever Gala on Sunday
night. This meal will be served and not a buffet, so I am including
the menu for the two choices you have for the meal. If you have
already sent your reservations in please notify Sandy Hodkinson and
let her know what your choice is so the Clarion will have enough food
to serve everyone. If you haven't sent your meals in yet these are
the two choices: (My note: you
have your choice of the two meats ... the rest is the same for both.)
-------------- Sliced Roast Sirloin ---------- --------------
Chicken Pesto ---------------
Garden Salad w. Assorted Dressings
Roasted Red Potatoes
Fresh Seasonal Vegetable - Asparagus
Rolls w/Butter
Coffee, Decaf & Herbed Tea
Dessert
There will be entertainment and a good chance to visit with
everyone before we start the Sessions so I hope many of you will plan
on attending the Gala.
We are looking forward to having Sister Barbara Benton, Most
Worthy Grand Matron join us for our Grand Chapter this year. Our
Patriotic Theme should lend to having a very good time at Grand
Chapter and having our members attend will make it all the more fun.
Sisters and Brothers you are the Heart of Eastern Star and without
you there would be no reason to have a Grand Chapter, so please attend
and join in the fun with us as we welcome our distinguished guests.
You are what makes this all worthwhile.
I want to take this time to thank each and everyone of the members
for your kindness, warm greetings and love that you have shown to WGP
Terry and me as well as the rest of the Heritage Grand Family as we
traveled around this beautiful state this year. It has been a year I
will never forget and the wonderful friends I have made as well as
renewing many old friendships has been a real blessing. I am looking
forward to Grand Chapter and hope to see many of you again as we are
'Celebrating the Heart of America.'
Hearty Hugs and Patriot Love,

VAN DRIVERS NEEDED FOR DISTINGUISHED GUESTS
May 18, 2007
Grand Chapter is rapidly approaching and the Most Worthy Grand
Matron will be holding her Official Visit during our Grand Chapter
session which means we will be hosting many distinguished guests from
other jurisdictions.
These guests will need transportation to and from the airport, the
Clarion, other hotels, and the Sundome. I am asking for volunteers to
drive these shuttle vans starting on Sunday June 24th.
If you are interested in helping out please contact me and I will
add you to my list, and then create a schedule based on the number of
volunteers I get.
Thank you in advance for your offer of help.

PRIORITY MAIL IN MY MAILBOX
What an evening at Trinity Chapter, under the shadow of our
capital dome. A packed house including three PGMs and four PGPs,
plus eleven Past Grand Marthas and the current Grand Martha to
welcome the news of Sister Ardith Swartz who will
be Grand Martha for the 2007-08 Grand Chapter year. AGM Marjoe
Richards and AGP Phil Green made the announcement along with their
pal "Kashmir dePeacock." The Worthy Matron Mary Kingsbury had a
wonderful greeting after Opening, telling of her visit to the
National Cemetary and how the Mt. Tahoma Jr. High students, 300
strong, come each year and place the American flag on each and
every grave. They will return later this week to retrieve the
flags, clean them and put them in storage to return for Veteran's
Day when they repeat this wonderful project. What great kids!
Anyway, it was a wonderful evening.

Time to think of others ...
I am putting this information on here in hopes that maybe a lot of you
would take the time to send a card to one of our young Masonic members. He
is not a member of Star and might never be, but he is a member of the
Masonic lodge here in Alamogordo New Mexico. He just got back from Iraq and
is presently in San Antonio Texas. The cheering up is needed because he is
only 18 years old and in the Army. He has now served his time in Iraq. On
his 4th time out on a mission, he became another statistic. He had his right
leg blown off, his left foot blown off, his right forearm had a compound
fracture and he received several other wounds, including one to his face.
Mathew has gone through several surgeries, to include one to re establish
his organs from the explosion. His burn wound on his back has been closed, I
understand. The good news, if there is any of that here, is that there was
enough of a "stump" left of his leg that they will be able to fit him with a
prosthetic leg. While his spirits have risen some, I am sure that he would
not complain about getting to many "get well" cards, or just "thinking of
you" cards to let him know we appreciate what he gave up for his country.
It's harder to say that when it is someone you know, isn't it?
Mathews address is,

Thanks to all who sends Mathew a card and thank all of you for keeping our

Resolution #1-06
WGM Recommendation #1
A recommendation to amend the Constitution stating that the Grand Chapter
Committee appointees need not be a Past Matron or a Past Patron.
Be it resolved that:
ARTICLE XIII of the Constitution, Titled: POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE WORTHY
GRAND MATRON, Section 1, (page 12) be amended to read as follows:
The Worthy Grand Matron shall open, preside over and close the Grand
Chapter, appoint all committees, Grand Chapter committee appointees need not
be a Past Matron or a Past Patron;......................
Rationale:
Although the Constitution does not indicate that a Grand Chapter committee
appointee must be a Past Matron or a Past Patron, it has been an accepted
tradition. There are a great many members in Montana who are well qualified
to be on a Grand Committee. It is necessary that a clarification be placed
in the code.

Resolution #2-06
WGM Recommendation #2
A recommendation to amend the Constitution stating that Grand
Representatives nominees must be a Past Matron or a Past Patron.
Be it resolved that:
ARTICLE XIII of the Constitution, Titled: POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE WORTHY
GRAND MATRON, Section 1, (pages 12 and 13) second paragraph be amended to
read as follows: The Worthy Grand Matron shall have the power to appoint
Grand Representatives to represent this Grand Chapter in other Grand
Chapters at the request of and upon nomination thereto, by the Worthy Grand
Matron of such Grand Chapter for a term to conform to the statutes of other
Grand Chapters, and in appointments to be made, no member of this Grand
Chapter shall be nominated to represent more than one Grand Chapter. Grand
Representative nominees must a Past Matron or a Past Patron.
....................
Rationale:
The Constitution does not indicate that a Grand Representative Nominee must
be a Past Matron or a Past Patron, however it is my feeling that a Grand
Representative appointment is an honor that should be reserved for those who
have served as Worthy Matron or Worthy Matron of their chapter.

as follows:
B. The Duties of the Committee shall be to make review and
present any necessary proposed changes in the Book of
Instruction to conform to the Ritual or to comply with our Constitution,
By-laws, Statutes, Penal Code, and Standing Rules.
Rationale:

Meaning
of a Flag Draped Coffin
All
Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that America is an
arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers
used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's
high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history. Pass it along
and be proud of the country we live in and even more proud of those who serve
to protect our "GOD GIVEN" rights and freedoms.
I hope
you take the time to read this ... To understand what the flag draped coffin
really means ... Here is how to understand the flag that laid upon it and is
surrendered to so many widows and widowers.
Do you
know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the
numbers in the year 1776?
Have you
ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding
the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to
symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!
·
The
1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life.
·
The
2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.
·
The
3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks
who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain
peace throughout the world.
·
The
4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in
God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His
divine guidance.
·
The
5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur,
"Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it
is still our country, right or wrong."
·
The
6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that they
pledge allegiance to the flag of the United! States of America and the
Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty
and Justice for all.
·
The
7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces
that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies,
whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic.
·
The
8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of
death, that we might see the light of day.
·
The
9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their
faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and
women who have made this country great has been molded.
·
The
10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and
daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.
·
The
11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King
Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob.
·
The
12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians
eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.
·
The
13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost
reminding them of their nation’s motto, "In God We Trust."
After the flag is
completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat,
ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington,
and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were
followed by their comrades and ship mates in the Armed Forces of the United
States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy
today.
There are some
traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future,
you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.
children you love and all others who love what is referred to, the symbol of
"Liberty and Freedom."
MAYBE THE SUPREME
COURT SHOULD READ THIS EXPLANATION BEFORE THEY RENDER THEIR DECISION ON THE
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. FORWARD IT; MAYBE SOMEONE WITH THE NECESSARY POWER, OR
POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL INFLUENCE, WILL GET IT TO THEM.
IN THE MEANTIME, MAY
GOD PROTECT US ALWAYS; ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR
ALL.

THERE was Rundle, Station Master,

An’ Blake, Conductor-Sargent,
Our Master twice was ’e,

An’ lookin’ on it backwards
It often strikes me thus,
There ain’t such things as infidels,
Excep’, per’aps, it’s us.
For monthly, after Labour,
We’d all sit down and smoke
(We dursn’t give no banquits,
Lest a Brother’s caste were broke),
An’ man on man got talkin’
Religion an’ the rest,
An’ every man comparin’
Of the G-d ’e knew the best.
So man on man got talkin’,
An’ not a Brother stirred
Till mornin’ waked the parrots
An’ that dam’ brain-fever-bird;
We’d say ’twas ’ighly curious,
An’ we’d all ride ’ome to bed,
With Mo’ammed, G-d, an’ Shiva
Changin’ pickets in our ’ead.
Full oft on Guv’ment service
This rovin’ foot ’ath pressed,
An’ bore fraternal greetin’s
To the Lodges east an’ west,
Accordin’ as commanded
From Kohat to Singapore,
But I wish that I might see them
In my Mother-Lodge once more!
I wish that I might see them,
My Brethren black an’ brown,
With the trichies smellin’ pleasant
An’ the hog-darn passin’ down;
An’ the old khansamah snorin’
On the bottle-khana floor,

JOKES
My husband and I had bought some gadgets for our almost teen-age
grandsons and were leaving the store when we realized we didn't have
batteries. He stepped over to a counter to get the batteries but couldn't
attract the attention of the clerk.
I waited for a little while then said, "I'll get a clerk over here real
fast." With that, I pulled out my pocket tape measure and started measuring
a large TV set.
Amazingly, a clerk leap-frogged over several pieces of furniture to
reach my side in jig time. To his "May I help you?" I said, "Of course. I'll
take 8 of those batteries over there."

My daughter Marina worked in my law office while she attended graduate
school. One morning a call came in for her. I said she wasn't in yet and
offered to take a message. The caller said she'd phone back later.
At 11:00 a.m., the caller tried again, and I reported that Marina had
gone to lunch.
The last call came in at 3:30 p.m. "I'm sorry," I said, "she's left for
the day. May I take a message?"
"Yes," the caller replied. "How can I get a job with you?"

On the first day,
God created the dog and said: "Sit all day by the door of your house and
bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life
span of twenty years."
The dog said:
"That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give
you back the other ten?"
So God agreed.
On the second day,
God created the monkey and said: "Entertain people, do tricks, and make them
laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span."
The monkey said:
"Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How
about I give you back ten like the dog did?"
And God agreed.
On the third day,
God created the cow and said: "You must go into the field with the farmer
all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support
the farmer's family For this, I will give you a life span of sixty Years."
The cow said:
"That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. How about
twenty and I'll give back the other forty?"
And God agreed
again.
On the fourth day,
God created man and said: "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For
this, I'll give you twenty years."
But man said:
"Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow
gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that
makes eighty, okay?"
"Okay," said God,
"You asked for it."
So that is why for
our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next
forty years we slave in the sun to support our family. For the next ten
years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren. And for the last
ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.
Life has now
been explained to you...
While eating dinner last evening, Ted suddenly said WOW! There in front
of our house was a coyote trotting up the beach in broad daylight ...
without a care in the world! I am so happy that Sissy is an inside cat ...
or she would have been history! Coyotes REALLY lick their lips when it
comes to cats! We once had a cat named .... ready??? MAMA CAT! Well Mama
Cat lived outside and had babies whenever it was feasible. She lived with
us for several years ... keeping the mice out of the barn and really earning
her 'keep'! One afternoon we looked out past the equipment shed to see a
coyote jumping up and down! We couldn't understand what was wrong with him,
so got the binoculars. There ... underneath him was Mama Cat laying on her
back. Every time the coyote went down for the kill, she struck out with all
four paws and sharp teeth. We yelled at one of our boys to grab the .22 and
off we all went! The coyote, when faced with all this havoc, took off
running and I went and swooped up Mama Cat and held her ever so tight. Her
eyes were as big as saucers and her heart was going 90 mph. Well ... as
luck has it ... that must have been her 8th life. The coyote did not forget
and came and took her away during the night. Where we lived ... if the
coyotes didn't catch the cats, the vehicles on the highway did!
