Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess.
He asked if I'd been 'computering',
And I had to answer "yes."

He told me to get off my fanny
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick...
I was just admiring my work...
I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click, I did, and oops I found
A real absorbing site
That I got SO way into...
I was into it all night.<<Sigh>>

Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess...
While I sit here on my hiney.

MESSAGE FROM OUR WORTHY GRAND MATRON

Dear 2007-08 Genie Worthy Matrons,
I recently sent you a letter about this year and forgot a very important item.  I am asking each Worthy Matron to have ready an 18" piece of 1/8" wide ribbon for each of YOUR selected colors this year, up to three pieces.  I will have you tie this on my gavel at your Official Visit.  Please spread the word to the other Worthy Matrons in your area.  I would rather they heard about it from several than to not hear about it at all.  Sorry I forgot this sooner.
HUGS,
** Marjoe Richards, WGM

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

I had the thrill of presenting a Grand Representative appointment in Centralia last evening. Judy Battin-Sellars is the new Grand Representive of Bolivia.  She was completely over come as was her mother Sis Eleanor.  Seven current Grand Representives and the former Bolivia representative Mary Lou Addy as well as many others formers were present.  Judy is listed in the Blue Book as WM of Centralia,

Analia Chapter is mighty proud: the new 2007-2008 Grand Worthy Advisor of Washington/Idaho Rainbow, Sister Sammi Jo Elwood, is a member of Analia Chapter, as is Jennifer Hampton, the new Grand Worthy Associate Advisor! Add to that our Sister Barbara Brown who is Supreme Inspector, and Sisters MaryLynne Barber and Patti Kuchenbecker who are Grand Deputies, and our Chapter is certainly well represented in the leadership of Rainbow in this jurisdiction. Naomi Chapter News

Naomi Chapter lost our member Grace Ramsey on July 19th.  Grace was our oldest member at 98.5 years and 75 year member as of July 18th.  She was also a 63 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Puyallup where she was the longest standing member.  Her membership in Zora Temple No. 5, Daughters of the Nile spanned 60 years.  A memorial service with both the OES and Nile services will be held at the Tacoma Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 817 S Vassault on Friday, July 27th at 10 AM.  The family suggests donations to the Portland Shrine Hospital in her memory.

Naomi Chapter was also saddened by the loss of Esther Pacsmag Sannes on July 18th.  Her services will be Saturday, July 28th at the First Christian Church in Puyallup at 11:00 AM.  Esther was a 49 years and 5 months member of Naomi Chapter.

Both of these ladies will be sorely missed by the members of Naomi Chapter.

GC of CO News ...
All members of Colorado Grand Chapter are cordially invited to attend a Special Meeting of Centennial Chapter #58 on Wednesday, August 1 at 7:30 pm when they will welcome and honor Columbine Grand Chapter, PHA, Eastern Star members.
On June 30, 2007 WGM Janet and WGP Bill, together with several of their Grand Officers and escorts attended the Visitation of Lillian H. Favors, Grand Worthy Matron PHA to her four Chapters in Denver. It was interesting to see the differences and the similarities of the work and enjoyable to share in the fellowship with the Sisters and Brothers of Prince Hall.

Guidelines for Visiting Prince Hall Affiliated (PHA) Eastern Star Chapters.
This is a copy of what is being sent to all chapter Secretaries.

At the 2006 Grand Chapter Session, the Grand Chapter of Colorado recognized Columbine Grand Chapter, Prince Hall Affiliate (PHA) of Colorado, Wyoming and Utah, for the purpose of visitation.
The procedures for fraternal visitations between our Colorado Chapters and the Chapters under the Columbine Grand Chapter, OES, PHA have been finalized.
The following is the procedure for visiting PHA Chapters in Colorado and Utah.
Initially, it is important that you contact the Worthy Matron and request a mutually convenient visitation time and date.
We have enclosed a list of the PHA Eastern Star Chapters in Colorado and Utah with the names of their Worthy Matrons. (Note: we cannot visit Wyoming PHA Chapters until Wyoming Grand Chapter also extends recognition to Columbine Grand Chapter.)
In passing the examination you must have a current dues card and answer the questions in the Secret Work as exchanged during initiation between the Worthy Patron and the Conductress. They do pick up the pass which is the Cabalistic Word, which is whispered while giving the grip of the Order to the officer picking up the pass.
The apparel will be what we normally wear to our Eastern Star meetings, ladies avoid black. Absolutely no pants, as they are not allowed in their meetings. They will be in white and they do wear gloves, but gloves will not be worn by us.
When PHA Eastern Star members visit us:
Columbine Grand Chapter has been given a roster of our chapters and they will in turn contact our Worthy Matrons to arrange a visit.
We will do examination as usual: Dues card, Test Oath and Signs and Passes of the 5 degrees. Examining Committee then reports as usual.
The purpose of our fraternal relations is for fellowship, friendship and the joy of seeing the differences in our Eastern Star. It is most interesting and we hope that you will all enjoy this opportunity for fraternal fellowship.

(Yes ... we were away for several days, but when possible, I try to go online and toss out unneeded emails!  But ... I find that I am sure getting a lot of 'spam'!  I hate it when that happens!!!  I have an email address which I just use for Internet exploring ... but somehow ... my good email address is getting contaminated ... so to speak!  Bottom line is ... if at first you don't succeed in getting your email message through ... please try, try again!)

GC of CA News ...
(7/21)  We had a wonderful reception last night here in Fresno for Barbara Scott, Grand Conductress of California, and the Conductresses of our state.
Of course the big announcement was--who has she picked as her partner? I am thrilled to report that he is J.D. (John David) Hammett. (In fact I was so excited last night to hear that JD was selected that I paid NO attention to what chapter he is from so I can't report that!) :)
But JD served as Grand Organist in 2004, and he is an amazing person absolutely full of energy and enthusiasm for our Order. He is a trained leader, speaker and motivator, as anyone who's attended California's IMPACT Sessions will know; but he's also a genuinely friendly and caring person. Between JD and Barbara, there will be so much energy and so many bright smiles in California in 2009 that our Order can't help but improve and grow.
JD's Mom, Johnnie, will be his escort.

Masonry related info ...
History has been made once again in the wonderful world of Freemasonry by songs written and recorded by Brother Howie Damron

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
'I'm living DeMolay' and 'Follow the Eastern Star'

July 3rd, 2007
History has been made once again in the wonderful world of Freemasonry by songs written and recorded by Brother Howie Damron writer of 'The Masonic Ring.'  And now comes his daughter 'Karisa' who has created and written her own song called 'Follow the Eastern Star.'  Also at the recent International DeMolay Conference, Brother Howie Damron received a standing ovation for his performance of 'I'm living DeMolay', the song that he and Brother Robert Cockerham co-wrote together.,  'I'm living DeMolay' and 'Follow the Eastern Star' were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, July 1,2--7, at the Tombstone Studio, where once again, renowned international musicians and artists took up the microphones and recorded the two songs that will touch the hearts of DeMolays and Eastern Star and many others throughout the world.
Freemason Brother Howie Damron has been performing the 'Masonic Pride Hiram's Call Tour' from coast to coast this year with great success, while having his daughter Karisa join him during many of the shows.  Karisa, who just turned 21, listened to the songs her Dad wrote and performed for Freemasonry.  She studied and became so motivated that she wrote her first song ever, aptly entitled:  'Follow the Eastern Star'.  The magic that was created in the studio during the recording of both songs soon will come to life in DeMolay and Eastern Star as well as the world of Freemasonry, similar to Howie's other Masonic compositions and family oriented music.  'I'm living DeMolay and 'Follow the Eastern Star' currently are being Master mixed in Nashville and will soon be ready for wonderful presentations everywhere.  'This Masonic Adventure just keeps getting better and better.' says Howie.  Karisa sings the praises of her Dad as follows:  'I've always been my Dad's biggest fan ... his career has paved the way for my own career and standing on the stage or in front of a recording microphone with him only makes my love for him that much stronger.  This is a love that I want to share with others who understand the importance of a father and daughter relationship in today's world.'
'I'm living DeMolay' and 'Follow the Eastern Star' will be available in the near future.  Anyone interested in placing their name on the contact list for first call when available may do so at cdamron1@aol.com.  Please provide your name, email address and phone number.  Both songs will be added to the new album 'Hiram's Call' and will go into production immediately.
For all contacts please use cdamron1@aol.com.

Passing of California PGM ... (7/8/2007)
Hello Everyone,
It is with heavy heart that I pass along this very sad news. Sister Jean Powers, Past Grand Matron for California in 1988 passed away Friday morning at the Masonic Home in Union City. I am unsure right now of the details, but I know Sister Jean will be missed by all. She was a beautiful lady and a wonderful PGM.  Please pray for her devoted husband, Bob as he mourns the loss of his beautiful wife. Cards can be sent to:
Bob Powers
C/O Masonic Home for Adults
34400 Mission Blvd.
Union City, CA 94587-3604
Funeral and Memorial arrangements are pending and I will forward them to the group as soon as I get them.
On a personal note, Sister Jean Powers was a member of my Chapter, Star of Claremont and was the first person that greeted me when I walked thru the door of the chapter before I was initiated and sat next to me afterwards and called me the next day to ask me if I had any questions. She holds a big place in my heart. She was also the hostess at my Line Party and my Installation as Worthy Matron in 2004. And lastly she was the Hostess for the Orange Belt Spring Luncheon in 2004 when I was President of my Association. She was very, very special to me. I know Sister Jean Rosewall feels the same way.
Puppy Dog Hugs and Stellar Love,

The first time I saw this was during our military years.  The Worshipful Master was a General or someone similar … and the Secretary was an E-9 … Chief Master Sergeant in the USAF of which Ted was one … as well as several others we learned while in the Heritage Grand Family .… Gary Osborne, Ed Croft, Ken Larson and, of course, Ted!  Anyway, enjoy!

  • Worshipful Master:  Leaps tall buildings in a single bound, is more powerful than a locomotive is faster than a speeding bullet; also walks on water.  Holds daily conversations with God.
  • Senior Warden:  Leaps short buildings in a single bound, is more powerful than a switch engine, is just as fast as a speeding bullet, walks on water if the sea is calm, and talks with God.
  • Junior Warden:  Leaps short buildings with a running start and favorable winds, is almost as powerful as a switch engine, is faster than a speeding BB; walks on water in an indoor pool, and talks with God with special approval.
  • Deacons:  Barely clears a Quonset hut, looses tug of war with a locomotive, can fire a speeding bullet, passes water, and is occasionally addressed by God.
  • Treasurer:  Makes high marks on the wall when trying to leap over buildings, is run over by a locomotive, can sometimes handle a gun without inflicting self-injury, doggie paddles in water, and talks to animals.
  • Tiler Runs into buildings, recognizes locomotives two out of three times, is not issued ammunition, can stay afloat with a life jacket, talks to walls.
  • Secretary:  Lifts buildings and walks under them, kicks locomotives off the tracks, catches speeding bullets with his teeth and eats them, freezes water with a single glance, and answers only to God.

LOWRY'S HINTS

HINT 1 -  Soap Scum off Chrome:  To easily wipe away soap scum and other junky stuff from your chrome fixtures and even look alike chrome, simply poor a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a cleaning cloth or paper towel and wipe it away, you don't even have to apply any pressure.
        * * * * * * * * * *
HINT 2 -  Glass Vase stains:  To remove those tough stains from the bottom of a glass vase, just fill with water and add two Alka-Seltzer tablets!
        * * * * * * * * * *
HINT 3 - A rubber spatula is probably the frugal cook's best friend. Use it to scrape out the last of the peanut butter, clean out the butter dish (for your toast), and get all the batter from a bowl. They come in all sizes....

BONUS:  When you have a spill in your oven, sprinkle some salt on it right away. Then when the oven cools wipe it off.

JOKES

Once my wife and I had to take a flight that had 4 other stops before arriving at the Dallas-Forth Worth Airport. At the first stop, a little white truck drove up to the plane and my wife watched it pull up to the wing. She asked, "What's that truck doing?"
I explained that some airlines don't completely fuel up a plane for various reasons & we were taking on more fuel. This process was repeated at the next three stops, and my wife watched the plane being fueled each time.
At the last stop, I said, "Ya know, in spite of all these delays, we're making pretty good time."
My wife pointed out the window and said, "I don't know. That lil' white truck is keeping up with us.

My sister has the courage--but not always the skills--to tackle any home-repair project.
For example, in her garage are pieces of a lawnmower she once tried to fix. So I wasn't surprised the day my other sister, Dianne, and I found our sister attacking her vacuum cleaner with a screwdriver.
"I can't get this thing to cooperate," she explained when she saw us.
"Why don't you drag it out to the garage and show it the lawnmower?" Dianne suggested.

An absent-minded husband thought he had conquered his problem of trying to remember his wife's birthday and their anniversary. He opened an account with a florist, provided that florist with the dates and instructions to send flowers to his wife on these dates along with an appropriate note signed, "Your loving husband."
His wife was thrilled by this new display of attention and all went well until next year, on their anniversary, when he came home, kissed his wife and said off-handedly, "Nice flowers, honey. Where'd you get them?"

THIS ONE IS ESPECIALLY FOR JERRY CLARK ...
There was this truck driver who had to deliver five hundred penguins to the state zoo. As he was driving his truck through the desert, the truck breaks down. After waiting by the side of the road for about three hours he waves another truck down and offers the driver $500 to take these penguins to the state zoo for him.
The next day the first truck driver arrives in town and sees the second truck driver crossing the road with 500 penguins walking in single file behind him.
The first truck driver jumps out of his truck and says, "What's going on? I gave you $500 to take these penguins to the zoo!"
The second truck driver replies, "I did take them to the zoo. And I had enough money left over so now we're going to see a movie."

HELOISE
  • Make Your Own Donuts:  Try this easy recipe: Separate and shape refrigerator biscuits (one can) and put into enough hot oil to cover them. Cook, not too fast, until golden brown. Let drain on a paper towel and roll in confectioners' sugar.
  • Buy Extra Toothbrushes When on Sale:  Toothbrushes are great for cleaning more than your teeth. Store a couple under your kitchen or bathroom sink. Use a toothbrush to get rid of food clogged on the tines of forks. It's also good for cleaning coffee filters, handles or pots and pans and any other small space that's hard to reach.
  • Keeping Cats Away from Plants:  Felines don't like the scent of citrus, so place several orange, lemon or lime peels around the soil of plants that need protection from nosy cats. It should repel their curious meddling.
  • Correct Way to Store Mushrooms:  Put them unwashed in the refrigerator in a paper bag (not plastic) so they can breathe and they will remain fresh a lot longer. Be aware that if they are stored wet, they will become slimy.

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY ...

Finally, huh!  Since we last 'spoke', Ted and I spent 6 days at Monitor attending the annual 'Square and Compass Jamboree'!  What fun!  We were honored on Saturday evening (the 14th) to have Grand Master Wayne and Lady Jan in attendance as well as Associate Grand Matron Diane and Escort Gary and Associate Grand Patron Roy and Escort Mary!  Also in attendance were RW Doug Tucker, Deputy Grand Master and Lady Glynis; RW Santy Lascano, Junior Grand Warden, and RW Dave Owen, Grand Secretary and Lady Karen ... plus ... PGM June Lee and PGP Chuck Callen.  We had a mighty fine BBQ which followed a busy day of Eggs Benedict at Zarthan Lodge in Leavenworth, the annual golf tournament, and more Texas Hold-um!  Winners of the Golf Tournament were Dave Owen, low ... and Peggy Weitman, high!
Then this past weekend. we went to Clarkston to help with a family BBQ dinner in honor of my Dad's 102nd Birthday!  WOW!  102!!!  That was Saturday ... on Sunday, Ted, Dad, my brother Marcus and myself drove down the Rattlesnake Grade out of Anatone to the Grande Ronde ... had breakfast at Boggan's Oasis and what a wonderful breakfast, too, I might add!  Then on to Troy, OR ... and then back over the Blue Mountains via Mt. Misery!  We were on roads that were barely passable!  But our van made it fine ...  My Dad and brother could remember taking horses down in that country fishing!  On some of those roads, I would be scared to ride a horse!  I did a lot of praying!!!
And talk about WARM!   These days sure don't cool off much at night, huh!  And everything is so dry and we do hope that we can continue to avoid fires!  When driving to Monitor (out of Wenatchee), we noticed where they were having one and where one had been!
Until next time ... Hearty Patriot Hugs, happy thoughts and may God Bless You All!
