SENIOR CITIZEN THOUGHTS ...
  • Life is too short to dance with ugly men.
  • Don't let your mind wonder - It's too small to be let out on its own.
  • I'm going south for the Winter - Actually, parts of me are ALREADY headed that way!
  • If a man's home is his castle - then he can clean it!
You're not yourself today - I notice the improvement IMMEDIATELY.
  • If there is a tourist Season - then why can't we shoot them?
  • My sex life isn't dead YET - but the buzzards are circling.
  • My bra is more of a 'Cross-Your-Waist' Size.
  • Don't believe everything you think!
  • If you have something to say - raise your hand and place it over your mouth!
  • BLESSED ARE THE CRACKED ... FOR THEY ARE THE ONES WHO LET IN THE LIGHT!

The monthly calendar ...
Connie,
Please continue the 'Holidays for the Month' in each issue.  Sometimes I find I just need a day home without driving 630 miles to a meeting.  I may have to use some of those in the future.  Brethren - if you find a holiday on the date that I tell you I am already obligated or tell you where I am going to be or why I have another obligation - check Connie's list first!

EAT HEALTHY THIS FALL WITH THESE FRUIT CHOICES -

Thin that the end of summer signals the end of healthy eating?  For many, the warmer seasons bring a plethora of fruits and vegetables that make eating healthy easy to do.  Saying good bye to corn on the cob, fresh zucchini, peaches, and blueberries doesn't mean saying hello to dried fruits, and canned veggies and packaged preservatives.  Here are some great fresh produce choices that can help you make an appetizing transition to the cooler months:
Grapes are available year round and are full of antioxidants.
Pumpkin is loaded with beta-carotene as well as Vitamin A and potassium, fiber and iron.
Apples are full of antioxidants and Vitamin C.

When the graveside service had no more than terminated, there was a tremendous burst of thunder accompanied by a distant lightning bolt and more rumbling thunder.

2015 Triennial Fund News ...

Connie,

Could you put this quote from WGP Phil in your next STARS and also note it is not the John Grobler Fund, but funds to pay our share for the 2015 Triennial.  We will be calling it the 2015 Triennial Fund.

** Margaret Sherman

WGP Phil did his commercials and then mentioned that several had been asking about the replacement for Harry Sherman, PGP, on the RWGS John Grobler team.  Phil said that the committee has narrowed the person down to about 3 names and the selected one should be known before long.  Phil went on to talk about the funds needed to help put on the 2015 General Grand Session in Pittsburg and Washington’s portion is $100,000.  (This is the same we had to raise for PMWGM Carol Strizek in 1985.)  But with almost 10 years from the time John was elected RW Grand Sentinel until he is MWGP with MWGM Bobbie, that comes to about $10,000 per year.  Harry had organized the State into 9 areas, so each area has a representative who will organize the area to raise about $1,111.11 per year.  (Note, the chapters are not going to be taxed for this, but get the ‘public’ to help pay.)  The means for doing this will be with coffee-days at the freeway rest stops, dinners and any other LEGAL means we can come up with.  Phil said it must be emphasized that NONE of this money goes to John Grobler for his personal use.  The sooner the money comes rolling in, the sooner it can be put in CDs, or other conservative venues, to gain interest on the dollar.  The able Treasurer is J. Paul Fitzsimmons, PGP, and he will know how to put this money into successful and gainful accounts.  So, when the organizers come around asking you to help man a rest stop or prepare a dinner, or whatever else, please put in your fair time.  The more working on this endeavor, the more friends will be made and the more fun for all.

FORWARDED MESSAGE FROM DON BECK, PGP:  I am pleased to announce that Terry Wiggins, PGP, has accepted the position of Chairman for the 2015 Triennium Fund Raising Committee.  Terry is as excited and enthusiastic as was Harry.  He has many ideas to share with the committee and I am confident he will provide the leadership to move us forward to our goal

Interesting read from Montana ...

Marysville Meeting -
Ah, yes, Memories are Made of This!  Miriam Chapter took its Charter to Marysville for its Stated Meeting last Tues. and a wonderful time was had by all.  This was the second year in a row that this has occurred; the Rainbow Girls also meet there once a year.  We had 41 members and 14 visitors present for a most enjoyable evening.
Marysville is an old mining town, occupied mainly by ghosts at this time, although many people still call it home and there is also a wonderful supper club/pub right across the street from the Temple.  This is the location of Thomas Cruse's Drumlummond Mine and, as they say, there's still "gold in them thar hills", along with silver and other metals.  Marysville is right on the way to the local ski slope-Great Divide; it is about a 20-25 mile drive from Helena--a lot of it on unpaved road.
Ottawa Lodge #51 provided a dinner consisting of Sloppy Joes, salad, potato chips, ice cream, and cake before the meeting.  Sister Jeannie Bouma was "persuaded" by her husband, Bert, to prepare the main course and it was delicious.  After the meeting, they served us more cake and ice cream to send us on our way down the mountain.  Believe me; the portions were more than generous!
Years ago, the first OV of the year was at Mountain Star #130 and there would be 120 or more people in attendance.  Electa and Ruth sat knee to knee with the Chaplain and the Marshal.  There would be benches between Esther and the West so that there was little room for introductions and Ritualistic work.  On one occasion, Grand Anna made the remark that sometimes one has to make adjustments.  On another occasion, just as the WGM was about to bring her message, a horse let out a loud whinny.  She remarked that she hoped that was not an editorial comment.  At yet another OV, the lights went out! Fortunately a Sister had a flash light and several Brothers left to go to their cars and obtain more flashlights so the meeting could continue.
I'm certain many of you attended Official Visitations there and could tell many more stories about your experiences.
During regular meetings, at the Silver March, all would adjourn to the dining room for a cup of coffee before proceeding with the remaining business.  Even visitors had their own personal coffee mugs hanging on the wall.  At one meeting each year, Brother Jean DeBree would treat everyone to a dinner of fresh salmon he caught in Oregon along with fresh corn from his garden.
Unfortunately, Mountain Star surrendered its Charter in 1992 and its members affiliated mostly with the two Helena Chapters.  We were sorry to lose this unique Chapter but were fortunate to gain so many wonderful members in our Chapters.
Secretary Grace Hiltabrand read the dispensation from WGM Gayle Holland allowing Miriam Chapter to move its Charter for this meeting.
WM Teri Garrison introduced and welcomed Kathy Miller, GGCCM and PGM; PGM's Betty Lockey, Virginia Hagen, and Jeanine Cole; PGP's LeRoy Hagen and Raymond Hartz; AGM Vickie Rauser; Grand Representatives Grace Hiltabrand of Alberta and Lora Hartz of Georgia; 12 Grand Committee members; WMs Eleanor Tesch of Fidelity #18, Choteau, Tracy Bratcher of Helen C. Roberts #71, Great Falls, and Heather Moon of Terry #74, Terry.  Also introduced was Worshipful Grand Master, David Nielsen, who was thanked for taking time from his busy schedule to be with us.
The Bible was closed informally for a slide program and narration about early America and "Wild West" Masonry by attorney and Ottawa Lodge member, Roger Carey.  Members of the Lodge were introduced from their chairs and accorded a hearty round of applause for their kindnesses during the evening.  The Silver March netted $108.15 which was presented to the Lodge for further building improvements.
Road Runner stamps were received by Olive Chapter #10, Great Falls, Fidelity Chapter #18, Choteau, and Helen C. Roberts Chapter #71, Great Falls.
There were many Black Angus "strollers" on the way up so we were very vigilant on our way down.  Evidently, the owner had been notified of his strays and had rounded them up as none were seen on the way home.  We were aided by a beautiful full moon.
We do hope this event will be repeated in years to come and that more will be able to join in the fun.
---Kathy Miller, GGCCM and PGM

Visa MasterCard fraud

Brian Martynook Chamber Of Commerce - Executive Director

My sister works at the Royal Bank of Canada and just received this communication about the newest scam.  This is happening in southern Alberta right now and moving.  Also in the U. S.  This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want.  Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.
This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from "VISA", and I was called on Thursday from"MasterCard".
            The scam works like this:
Person calling says, "This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460 , Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona ?"
When you say "No", the caller continues with,  "Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?"
            You say "yes".
The caller continues - "I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of  your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number.  "Do you need me to read it again?"
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works:
The caller then says, "I need to verify you are in possession of your card". He'll ask you to "turn your card over and look for some numbers". There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 number to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, "That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?"
After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, "Don't hesitate to call back if you do", and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number.
But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card.
We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.
The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit.
However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.
What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a "Jason Richardson of MasterCard" with a Word-for-word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain , and so on through the above routine.
It appears that this Is a very active scam, and evidently quite successful.
Pass this on to all your family and friends

Feast of Tishri ..

Valley of Everett Scottish Rite's  The Feast of Tishri

At the Everett Masonic Center

6:30 PM Punch Bowl Social

7:00 PM Dinner

Ladies, Guest and Children are invited to attend

Secretary, Brother Charrison Lochaby, 32° KCCH,

At 1-888-530-0816

or email him at clochaby@whidbey.com immediately

What is the Feast of Tishri?

The Masonic calendar is based on the ancient Hebrew calendar, which is a lunar calendar, and in which each month goes from new moon to new moon. The Biblical civil New Year starts in Rosh haShanah ('Head of the Year' or 'Beginning of the Year'), in the seventh month, Tishrey (teeshray), which is a celebration month (High Holy Days), corresponding to parts of September and October. The Temple of Jerusalem, built by Solomon, King of Israel, was also dedicated during the month of Tishrey. Some Scottish Rite Bodies around the world observe the Feast of Tishri, as a feast of thanksgiving to perpetuate the Biblical memory. No other occasion epitomizes the character and purpose of Freemasonry more wholly than this historic celebration of the dedication of King Solomon's Temple, the first edifice built for God

LOWRY'S HINTS
  • HINT 1 -Apple Cider Vinegar can be used as a dandruff-stopper. Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar can help keep dandruff away.

  • Hint 2 - Next time you have to rip off a band-aid try rubbing a little bit of hair conditioner around the edges before removing. It will peel away painlessly.

  • Hint 3 - Put a Bounce fabric sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them, it will keep them smelling fresh.

  • Hint 4 - Bacteria can't survive without moisture, so let your dishrags completely dry between each use.

JOKES

While I was serving as a chief master sergeant at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, La., my son and namesake was also serving there. His two month old son, whose name was the same as ours, was receiving medical treatments at the base hospital.
I went on sick call one morning, and as the doctor reviewed my file, he looked at me in disbelief. "Are you Curtis E. Chaffin?" he asked.
When I answered yes, he told me, "It says here that you turn blue when you cry."

When the minister picked up the phone, Special Agent Struzik from the IRS was on the line.  "Hello, is this the minister?"
    "Yes, this is."
"I'm calling to inquire about a member of your congregation, a Dr. Shipe. Do you recognize the name?"
"Yes, he is a member of our congregation. How can I be of service?"
"Well, on last year's tax return, the doctor claimed that he made a sizable tax-deductible contribution to your church. Is this true?"
"Well, I'll have to have our bookkeeper verify this information for you. How much did Dr. Shipe say he contributed?"
"Twenty five thousand dollars," answered Agent Struzik. "Can you tell me if that amount is true?"
There is a long pause. "I'll tell you what," replied the minister.......  "Call back tomorrow. I'm sure it will be."

There was a farmer who had many pigs. One day someone went to the farm and asked the farmer: "What do you use to feed your pigs?"
"Well, I give them acorn, corn, and things like that. Why?"
"Because I am from the Animals Protection Association and I think you don't feed them like you should, they shouldn't eat wastes." Then he fined the farmer.
Some days later, another person arrived and asked the same question. The farmer answered: "Well, I feed them very well. I give them salmon, caviar, shrimp, steak... why?"
"Because I am from the United Nations Organization and I think it's unfair that you feed your pigs like that when there are people dying with nothing to eat." And he fined the farmer.
Finally, a few days later another man came in and asked just the same question. The hesitant farmer answered after a few minutes: "Well, I give five dollars to each pig so they can buy whatever they want."

HELOISE
  • Sticky Sap on Hands and Clothes:  To remove this yucky stuff, first rub the stained area with vegetable oil (if okay for the fabric), then wash it with soap and water. You might have to repeat this treatment.

  • Stacked Glasses Sticking Together?  If drinking glasses cannot be separated, drizzle a little cooking oil in between the glasses. Then fill the top glass with ice cubes and wait a bit. You should be able to gently pull them apart.

  • Free Plant Food:  When you clean out a fresh-water aquarium, don’t throw out the water! Instead, use it to water your plants (indoor and outdoor).  It’s good for them.

  • Breakfast Banana Split:  For a fun breakfast change: Peel and spilt a banana and place in a flat bowl. Sprinkle with a cup of your child’s favorite dry cereal and then top with a half-cup of yogurt. You also could add berries or miniature chocolate chips.

  • Removing Ketchup Stains:  Act fast! Scrape off any excess and then soak the garment in cold water for 15 to 30 minutes. Rub liquid laundry detergent directly on the stain right before washing in warm water and detergent.

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY

And now the saga will continue ... Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, and all points between.  Bored?  WELL GUESS WHAT?  I feel too poorly to write of our trip to the above mentioned places.  Will have to wait until next time.  I have consumption ... which is better than other alternatives, I am sure!  (Hope I have the correct word ... to tell you the truth, I am coughing my head off and Dr. Connie did a quick diagnosis and came up with Sinus Infection!  We shall see tomorrow when I go to the doctor!  Went to ER in Newport last week and they said I was going to live!  GREAT!  And to take this and that!  Have and am worse!!)

To quote Dianna in her Cyber Chat:  Computer programmers know how to use their hardware.

Until next time ...Hearty Patriot Hugs, happy thoughts and may God Bless you all!
