 SPRING!

Something happens every year about now.
It's a most incredible thing.
Cowpokes notice, and the livestock as well.
It's the start of what we call Spring!

There's a kind of a restlessness I see at first,
as the cows start millin' around.
The horses get frisky, and the ranch hands, too.
Good humor just seems to abound.

The whole blamed ranch starts to movin' around,
and there's smiles all over the place.
Some of the boys start to writin' own poems;
go around with a grin on their face.

Folks walk straighter, it seems to me,
and say 'Howdy' to all they meet.
Some cowpokes go 'round whistlin' songs,
almost dancin' on their feet!

Even the cowboss gets into the act,
and talks about fun stuff to do.
'Soon as calvin's done, and things slow down,'
I've caught him whistlin', too.

The boss's wife gets out the iced-cream-maker
and starts to cleanin' the thing.
Yeah, good things are comin', I can feel it in m'bones.
It's the time of year we call SPRING!

SADNESS IN PUYALLUP

It's with a heavy heart that I tell you of the passing of our "Buddy" Lew Vogel.  He died peacefully in the hospital with his beloved Laura, kids, and Pastor Nancy from our church at his side.  I went in last night and got to be with him and even held his hand.  John from our church was with  me & he noticed when I started to talk to him, his breathing changed and his eyebrows raised up.  (Knowing him he was probably saying, Laura why did you let her in here?!)
Services will be Wed. May 16th at 11 am at the First Christian Church down 9th Ave. from the fairgrounds.
We will all miss him lots, but we will always remember what a fighter he was and all he did for our Masonic Families!  God Bless You Lew!
** Jeanette Turner
Services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church, 623 - 9TH Avenue SW, Puyallup, WA. A potluck lunch will follow the service.
Brother Lew served the Grand Lodge of Washington in many capacities during his years as a Mason as well as in Eastern Star ... being a Past Patron and serving on numerous committees.  He was appointed Grand Representative of BC & Yukon in January.  When I spoke with Brother Bill Hammontree the other day, he mentioned that Lew was also in Amaranth.  I am sure he was a Youth Leader as well.  He will be missed terribly!

Sad News at the Masonic Park

Paula Helen Turner
Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Friend

Paula Helen Turner, 64, was born November 29, 1942 in Coupeville, WA to Methel & Allen Nelson Branick.  After a long battle with COPD, Paula passed through the gates and entered the garden of heaven on May 9, 2007.
Paula will be most remembered by her generosity and kind heart open to everyone, as well as her passion and love for her family and friends. She had a way of deeply touching the hearts and lives of everyone blessed to know her.  Paula's strong willed nature was an inspiration to us all.
Paula retired from GTE after many years of service in Sales and Marketing, but her proudest time of service was as a young woman when she worked as a nurse's aid for Children's Hospital. Later in life as her health declined she was very proud of her work with the Binky Patrol. Her final years were spent at the Masonic Park in Granite Falls where she made many, many new friends and touched their lives as they touched hers.
Survived by her beloved husband, Fred, together they shared 45 years of blissful marriage; her children, David Turner, Kenneth Turner, Pamela (Mark) Pennick, Kristen Turner, and her special granddaughters, dear to her heart, Dana "Dana Bug" Grandpre (Randy), Kimberley "Pickalilly" Rodgers (Tony), and her loving grandson Christopher "Bud" Turner. Also survived by her are her great-grandchildren, Jordan "George" Laney, Alia "Peanut" Grandpre, Kinnedi "Kinny" Rodgers, and Savanah "Rose Bud" Rodgers, as well as many other loved relatives.  She is also survived by many, many close friends; dearly cherished are Jim
"P.A." and Carol "Lee" Carlson.  Paula was preceded in her passing by her son, Michael Turner and daughter, Donna Grandpre.
In memory of Paula, a memorial viewing will be held May 15, 2007 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm. Please join us at the Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Avenue Marysville, WA 98270 to celebrate Paula's wonderful life. She will be greatly missed, but never gone from our hearts and memories.
*We love you, Paula, and look forward to the day when we will see you again.*
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Paula's name to: Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children, C/O Nile Temple, 6601 244th St. S.W., Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.
( Paula is wife of Fred out at the Masonic Park.)

YES – I want a child who is experiencing a traumatic or difficult period to have a blanket that shows we care.  This event will be so worthwhile, and a whole lot of fun! Sign me up!

NAME: __________________________________________________________

Please use me as needed! I can help in one or more of the following areas (check all that apply), and have numbered them in order of my preference.

q       ____Honey, I was born to quilt!  If you call me before the event, I can bring my own sewing machine with 4 pre-threaded bobbins, both a regular and ____ footer, and a spare needle (power strips will be provided at the event).

Evening Phone: ______________________________________________________

Email: ______________________________________________________________

q       ____I simply adore ironing!  Put me to work pressing those seams to perfection!  (equipment will be provided at the event)

q       ____I can cut a straight line in a snap, and would be happy to bring my rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.

q       ____Not too keen on sewing, but I can bring some mighty-fine scissors that can cut through fleece like butter.

q       ____Best to keep me away from anything too sharp!  My eyesight is pretty good, though, and I can tie a knot.  Will be happy to bring embroidery snips attached to a neck ribbon.

q       ____I make all of my own greeting cards and gift tags!  I can bring my own ¼” hole punch, adhesive runner, and craft scissors with me.

q       ____I am constantly mistaken for Martha Stewart.  Just let me know what you want me to do and what equipment to bring.

q       ____OK, I admit it…I am not a crafty person.  But, I’m sure you can put me to work somewhere – like carrying supplies from one area to another.

LOWRY'S HINTS

HINT 1 - Dishwasher rinse agents help to get your dishes cleaner and dryer-but they sure are pricey. Fortunately, there's a cheap alternative: vinegar.
Here's How to Make the Switch to Vinegar:
1. Finish using up any commercial rinse agent that remains in your dishwasher.
2. Then, unscrew the cap from your dishwasher's rinse agent dispenser, and fill the well with white vinegar.
3. Replace the cap, and run your dishwasher as usual.
4. Refill the dispenser as needed.
Benefits of Using Vinegar as a Rinse Agent:
No water spots on cups and glasses
Dryer dishes
Cleaner dishes
No harsh chemicals
A cleaner dishwasher
BONUS Hint:   Dishwasher looking a bit dirty? Fill the detergent dispenser with vinegar (no detergent at all), and run it through a cycle.

HINT 2 - The Perfect Things To Keep Little Ones Occupied:   Save plastic lids off containers such as detergent, instant coffee, etc. (ones large enough not to be a  choking hazard).  They can be used as a variety of toys; stacking, teach colors, counting etc.

HINT 3: Cancel your land line:  Most cell phone companies offer coverage and plan choices that meet most regular phone needs. So why not cancel your land line and use your cell as your main phone number? If you count on your land line for Internet access, see if your cable or satellite company offers it. You can save several hundred dollars.
