  E-MAIL POEM

FRIENDS ARE LIKE BALLOONS ... Once you let them go, you can't get them back!

DEAR LORD
I know you're watching over me
And I'm feeling truly blessed
For no matter what I pray for
You always know what's best!

I have this circle of Email friends,
Who mean the world to me;
Some days I 'send' and 'send',
At other times, I let them be!

I am so blessed to have these friends,
With whom I've grown so close;
So this little poem I dedicate to them,
Because to me they are the MOST.

When I see each name download,
And view the message they've sent.
I know they've thought of me that day
And 'well wishes' were their intent.

So to you, my friends, I would like to say!
Thank you for being a part;
Of all my daily contacts,
This comes right from my heart.

God bless you in my prayer today
I'm honored to call you 'friend';
I pray the Lord will keep you safe,
Until we write again!

WGP TERRY INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT

(1/15/07) We've had a harrowing day today. Terry, after battling snow and ice for two weeks, decided to do somersaults with his truck on the way home from Auburn this evening. He hit his brake to slow down for the guy in front of him and went into the skid. The tow truck took it away, but he doesn't think there is much to save. I was quite shook up when I arrived on the scene and saw the truck on its side. He was well fastened and doesn't appear to be hurt, but will probably be a little sore in the morning. We are thankful that someone was watching out for him. Just to let you know that he is better than his truck.

NEW GRAND REPRESENTATIVE

The new Grand Representative of Massachusetts is Jean Cole from Warren Chapter. WGP Terry had the privilege and honor of presenting her commission last night.  Two current Grand Representatives and several former, including Don Hedlund, just former Grand Representative of Massachusetts, were in attendance. Jean was initiated into Eastern Star in Massachusetts, so this appointment is extra special for her.

MESSAGES FROM MY MAILBOX ..

Meeting rescheduled ...
Pyramid Chapter will have their postponed meeting on Thursday, January 25th.
Don't believe we on the Westside have had any cancelled meetings ... at least none have been reported.  Zillah Chapter wrote into their bylaws that the first meeting in January be no more!  Probably should have included the first three meetings of the new year. Mary Callen called yesterday and reported that there was to be potluck prior to Bethlehem's meeting last evening and make sure that we wear our long underwear!    It is so bitter cold over here in our neck of the woods.  Down to -8° last night (according to my handy-dandy on-line weather-site) and even colder in the outlying areas.  Our river is completely froze over ... maybe a patch here and there where there is a small bit of water still to freeze (where the river is deeper, I suppose!)  It is NOT safe to walk on, however, but every year someone seems to try!  And now snow is forecasted!  We still have gobs on the ground ... but can't complain as it helps insulate the flowers, tree roots, etc. so we are happy!  The chickens are out walking around ... and whenever they pause, they continually lift one foot after another!  Silly chickens.  Ought to go into their house and stay warm - er!

Sadness ..
Heard recently that Sister Pat Ringquist's husband passed away.  Pat was a PM of Electa Chapter in Spokane, now merged into Spokane Chapter.  She is also a Past Grand Organist and was very active in OES until the declining health of her husband.  Let's remember her in our thoughts and prayers.

Interesting facts ...
Hi Connie,
Thanks for printing the two items about Neil McGill, WGP of Montana.  He is my brother-in-law.  His wife Penny was Worthy Matron of Friendship Chapter (now merged) here in Seattle in 1974 and is now serving as Grand Esther in Montana.  They visited our Grand Chapter in 2003 and 2004 when I was Grand Organist.  So, they have met many people from here.
We need lots of prayers for both of them.
** Myrna Nilson, Past Grand Organist
Our prayers are with both your brother-in-law and sister.

Prayers Needed ... South Carolina ...
Please keep Brother Bill Burgess, our WGP, in your prayers. He was taken to the hospital Monday (1/15) after passing out at home. After running all kinds of test, they finally concluded that it was his blood pressure & medicines that caused the problem. His doctors have added/changed his meds a lot in the last month and they think that caused a problem. We were all on pins & needles and praying that it wasn't his heart again. THANK you LORD it was not! He was released Monday evening and sent home. But please keep him in your prayers, as you know his & our WGM's schedule is pretty tough. Any past Grand can attest to how rigorous the pace can be!

More sadness ...
The Order in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island lost a wonderful Sister on Friday, January 12th. Sister Elsie Henderson, widow of Past Grand Patron, Ken Henderson passed away. She had been suffering from Alzheimers for several years. Elsie rec'd her 50 year Jewel in 2003 and served our Grand Chapter as a Grand Officer three times. She was instrumental in the foundation of Althena Temple # 149, Daughters of the Nile, Halifax and served as the first Queen 1979-80. Sister Elsie is very well known in the Eastern Star Circles and Daughters of the Nile. She served as my Grand Ruth in 97-98 and will be really missed by all her friends.

Margie Fowler Kidney Transplant Setback -
Just to let you know, Margie's transplant was cancelled, since the final cross blood match contained anti-bodies which could cause organ rejection.  We were just leaving for Seattle as we got the cancellation call.  They will be contacting us next week as to what they will advise for another donor, since Koket is ruled out at this point.
Again we thank you all for your support and prayers for some positive resolution.

HISTORY OF OUR FIRST MOST WORTHY GRAND MATRON,
           EMMA P. CHADWICK'S TRIENNIAL
(Copied from the 43rd Triennial Assembly Souvenir Book)

This Triennium had begun with Americans enjoying prosperity unprecedented.  Then suddenly in October in that happy and peaceful  year of 1929 occurred the calamitous, unforeseen, and virtually unbelievable decline in the New York stock market.  By mid-1931, however disbelief had progressed to concern which in turn was becoming alarming as the ominous number of bank failures rapidly mounted.
Soup kitchens and breadlines came into existence and ruined businessmen were selling apples on the street, unemployment unprecedented, and a moratorium had been declared in June on payment of intergovernmental debts and reparations. The depression was worsening, and it may be safely assumed that as this Assembly convened in San Antonio with 3,356 members, there were many there with heavy hearts and others absent with heavier ones.
Confronted with bank failures and general business uncertainty, some Grand Jurisdictions were unable to settle their accounts with the Right Worthy
Grand Secretary.
Not adopted was the recommendation by the Grand Jurisdiction of Texas that, inasmuch as the efforts during twelve years had been unsuccessful in
raising sufficient funds to either buy or build an International Temple, all monies be returned to the donors. The Most Worthy Grand Matron being in less than
complete accord with the International Temple as previously planned and discussed as a monument, was of the belief that the need was for an office
building and, therefore urged the erection of such following the purchase of a suitable sight in the immediate future.
Right Worthy Grand Treasurer in her report placed the International Temple Fund at $264,300.00 and the grand total of all funds on August 31, 1931 at $402,298.25 indicating an increase of $118,621.46  in three years.  The increase in membership during the Triennial had been 66,955 in the Order as a whole.

Passover Seder ...
Dear Sister Connie,
I do not have most of the traditional recipes.  But every book I have read on the Passover Seder & my granddad's instructions say that the center of the table should have a display of 7 foods.  They are as follows:  A boiled egg, a lamb shank bone without the meat, Bitter herbs (usually mustard greens, horse radish or Horse radish greens), 3 sheets of matzo bread wrapped in linen, Three glasses of wine,  Potatoes in one of many ways of preparations, & Salty water.  Each speaks of the sorrows of the oppressed Hebrew children & the haste of their flight to freedom from Egypt.
I & my husband ate Seder at the home of an observant Jewish friend.  He prepared the pan by putting some olive oil in to the pan & 3 cloves of crushed garlic.  He then added the meat, which was Corned Beef, by browning the meat on all sides in a small amount of olive oil, then he stacked potatoes washed & quartered & wedges of cabbage over & around it.  He added about 3 cups of water & simmered it for about an hour.  Then the cabbage was put into one serving bowl, the potatoes in another & the meat was sliced & placed on a separate plate.  Other traditional dishes are potato latkes instead of boiled potatoes.  They are similar to potato pancakes.  Remember there is no leavening used in a Passover Seder.
Love,
Carol Ann Sanderson
Thank you, Sister Carol Ann.  The Corned Beef dish sounds wonderful!  Sister Kathleen Miller reported, too, that she is obtaining recipes which she will share with us all!  So Brother Vinny?  Your question has been answered!  Isn't it wonderful when we all work together?  TEAM.  (Together everyone achieves more ... right WGP Terry?)

Locks of love ... another story ...
    I thought you might enjoy this story;
A couple of years ago, CA Rainbow Girls selected Locks of Love as one of their projects. At the 75th Anniversary Sessions of Grand Assembly, all those who had grown their hair long enough for the project select a friend to do the cutting. At the designated time, all of the donors marched in, holding the hand of the person who would do the cutting. They formed a double line that stretched from the East to the West. They had the donor kneel, and the cutter stood behind them. When the bell sounded, the cutters cut off the pony tails and held them up! There were tears of sacrifice and joy as the collected hair over filled the pot of gold created for the occassion. I forget the end result, but I believe they made it into some record book and the value of the donated hair was almost $340,000! Even the Grand Worthy Advisor participated. Rainbow Girls have generously given their time and money to many projects over the years, CA alone has donated over $1,000,000 to various projects.
But this most personal donation was one of their finest hours and I was so very proud when I witnessed that moment.

And another great story ..   ....
I think it is wonderful to have such leadership in the Rainbow. These days we do not see many learning about the give of giving. The Leaders and the Rainbow Girls need to be commended. Tears came to my eyes as I read about the California, 75th Anniversary Session and what the girls did. Rainbow taught me a lot and I remember my years as a Rainbow Girl with happiness.
I would like to tell you another story about Locks of Love. My Granddaughter who is now twelve, was born with a heart defect. At the age of three she had open heart surgery. We call her our gift from God as she leads a normal life Samantha wanted to give something back to a child. At age seven she gave her first donation, this will the third time she is growing her hair for Locks and Love. Only this time her mother is growing her hair along with her.
One of the Metrologist in the Jackson, Mississippi area is also growing her hair and sent out a challenge for many to begin doing the same.
Bless All Those Who Serve Our Youth So Faithfully.

Another Grand Representative of Florida in Oregon
First I have been gone all weekend to Portland for receptions and didn't get a chance to post until now. Sorry for my tardiness.
Last Wednesday at the meeting of Blue River Chapter #158 in Eugene it was unseasonable cold and snowy. Not the kind of weather we are used to. 11 brave souls ventured out to chapter that night. Our Worthy Patron is also our WGP (and my hubby) and he was scheduled to be gone that night. Well, the weather prevented that so we had him in attendance. I am secretary and was busy minding my own business during escorts when he announces one more Grand Representative in attendance. I didn't even look up, just waited to get it in the minutes when I realize no one is talking. I look at him and he is standing there looking at ME! (Oh, I will get even for that one) I was totally speechless. Not an everyday occurrence trust me. The shock has worn off, I think, and I am waiting to hear from my counter part in Florida. I know GC is in April, sorry, I am not going to make it this year. I have actually been to Florida a few times as my
sister is in OES in Florida. Seems to me I was her installing officer the first time she was Worthy Matron. I look forward to being in Florida again, not sure when, but after June '07 I am sure. Dick will be finished up as WGP in June and until then I kinda need to hang around here and be helpful!
See you one the OES trail,

The Seder Plate
I checked with one of our OES members, Susan Olsen, who grew up in New York.  Here is the information that was requested in Stars.
** Marla Miller

Begin with chicken soup if you choose.  No noodles, just chicken soup.  The main meal consists of:

Roast Chicken baked at 325 degrees for 30 minutes per pound BUT the more preferable meat is fresh brisket.  This is prepared by wrapping the brisket in foil and pouring the chicken soup over it to cook until tender. (Costco has CHOICE fresh brisket that is excellent).  Potatoes OR more traditionally matzo meal pudding.  This is dry and prepared with noodles.  You can find the recipe on the Matzo box.  Fresh asparagus and carrots.

THE SEDER PLATE:

How the plate looks is more important than what is on it.  For a family it is the centerpiece of the table, your friend will have to fix several of these plates that would be served on turkey platters.

EACH plate has:

1)   Matzo

2)   Gefillete fish (You can buy this already prepared in jars.)

3)   Red horse radish called TSIMAS

4)   Sprigs of parsley

5)   Hard boiled eggs. (Everyone has to have at least one-half of a hard boiled egg.)

6)   Celery

7)   Everyone eats some of everything from the Seder plate.

Dessert is a fruit cup (canned or fresh) with Coconut macaroon cookies

ONE VERY IMPORTANT ITEM: You have to have a glass  of salt water between every other person so they can dip the celery.

If your friend lives in an area that has a synagogue he might check with the local Rabbi who can offer a lot of tips on how to serve a beautiful Seder meal.

MASONIC NEWS

To All Interested Parties:
The Masonic park took a substantial amount of damage this year, due to unusual flooding, heavy snowstorms, and very heavy windstorms.  The estimated repairs are quite substantial and although we hope to cut costs through volunteer labor and donated materials, there is still a concern over finances.  All donations and assistance would be greatly appreciated, and very welcomed.
The first item is the water system. We had a main line rupture and it drained the tank.  With all the digging and line repair, the totals to repair this are approximately $2340.00.
The second item is the main power lines for the park.  There were 20 spans of wire and several poles broken off, as well as large amounts of damage to hardware.  The estimate for repairs totals $25,000.00, and includes six poles, one roll of wire, hardware, and installation.
The third item is to repair the roof on the big kitchen from tree damage.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $500.
The fourth item is to rebuild shelter 58 and Maple Grove (area 3) from flood damage.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $3000.00.
The fifth item is to install a new oversized culvert at the lower pond drain, across the road.  The flood washed out the old culverts, and the road.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $3000.00.
The sixth item is general road repair to all the lower roads from flood damage.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $8500.00.
The seventh item is to rebuild the canyon creek bank and to reinforce areas that took heavy damage.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $30,000.00.
The eighth item is to relocate and repair the Al Jorge shelter in area 1 and to repair the ground damage.  The estimate for repairs is $3000.00.
The ninth item is the dividers between the fish ponds.  Two of them will need repairs done to them and one of them will need to be replaced.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $1900.00.
The tenth item is repair to the Open Air lodge.  Upon initial inspection, there is speaker wire damage and seating damage.  The tiers around the lodge room will need to be rebuilt and re-graveled for the seating.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $6000.00.
The eleventh item is to rebuild the small Whidbey 15 shelter by the swimming hole from the flood damage.  The estimate for repairs is approximately $3000.00.
To date the repairs which have been addressed but not necessarily completed are:
                                 New electric poles and wiring
Culverts installed to make roads accessible
Repairs to lower road along the creek

A special account has been opened at Key Bank for the sole purpose of the Masonic Park Restoration.  If you would like to make a donation by check or money order, please mail to:
                                 Masonic Park
                                PO Box 1379
                                Granite Falls, WA 98252
A PayPal account has been established for those who wish to donate with a credit card.  All donations other than cash or checks can be done by utilizing the PayPal account at masonicpark@msn.com.  Please be sure to designate your donation to “Masonic Park Restoration Fund.”
For further information, please contact Fred or Paula Turner, our Park Managers, at 360-691-6641 or email them at turnermasprk@msn.com.  Or call Frank Pascoe, Chairman of the Masonic Park Restoration Committee, at 360-653-1126 or email him at peachwm@juno.com .
Large amounts of rock and other materials can be recycled from the park, but gravel, lumber, and other miscellaneous materials cannot.   So once again with an estimated total of over $86,500 in damage and expenses, any and all donations will be graciously accepted.  We here at the Masonic Park hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday, and will have an even better New Year.  We thank you in advance for your support

MINUTE MAN AWARDS

WGM Joanne Clark is honoring the Masons at the Official Visits this year.  She is selecting a Mason from a list given to her form the Worthy Matrons of each Chapter.  They will be called the "Minuteman" to go along with her patriotic theme. To qualify for the award, the Mason must be a 10 year member of Eastern Star, have served as Worthy Patron in the Chapter, and been active in the Chapter.  The pins are beautiful and were purchased from Dave Hattrick of ID, now residing for a spell in AZ.
So let's give these outstanding Masons some credit for all their work they do for our beautiful Order!  I will need some help here so please let me know who has been given this award in your Chapter during the Official Visit.
(For July, August, September and October ... please check in the archives on Connie's Corner on the GC of WA's website ... www.washingtonoes.org.  - the last list published in its entirety was in issue #6-052.)

LOWRY'S HINTS

HINT 1:   "Stretch" everything as much as you possibly can. For example, you can dilute these products with water, or cut them in half and they will work just as well: toothpaste, shampoo, hair conditioner, dish detergent,  dishwasher soap, and laundry soap.

            * * * * * * *

HINT 2:  Paint small crevices or repair scratches in furniture.   Dip a toothpick in paint to retouch fine scratches or reach small nooks and crannies.
            * * * * * * *
HINT 3:  Tighten a loose screw. Insert a toothpick into the screw hole, break it off at the surface, and rescrew the screw.

            * * * * * * *

HINT 4:  Dough Won't Stick:   Chill the rolling pin in the freezer and the dough won`t stick to it. This way you won't have to keep adding more flour to the dough which in the end will only make it dry and tough.
            * * * * * * *
HINT 5:  Shelf Liner:  It is very easy to line cabinet shelves with peel and stick floor tile. At some time or other these tiles go on sale. The tiles cut very easily with a scissors and clean up with a damp cloth or sponge.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

Eat and drink what you like.  Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

STEAK SAVVY

Navigating the meat aisle can be challenging-you might be looking for a shell steak and all you can find are NY Strips. What you may have never realized is that they are the same thing. Our chart should clear up some of the confusion and help you pick the perfect steak. It lists the different names for each cut (some might have three or four different names!), good substitutions, and great recipes for each cut; just click on the underlined steaks.

Rib and short loin steaks are usually more tender than other cuts. Any of the following, including flatiron steak, even though it comes from the shoulder, can be prepared the same way:

  • Top Loin Steak (aka. Shell Steak, Strip Steak, Hotel Steak, NY Strip, Kansas City Strip) ... Chewy, slightly leaner than other cuts.
  • Tenderloin Steak (aka. Chateaubriand, Filet Mignon, Tournedos) ... Very tender; mild flavor.
  • T-Bone Steak (n/a) ... Part tenderloin, part middle loin.
  • Porterhouse Steak (n/a/) ... Larger T-bone, with more tenderloin.
  • Rib-eye Steak (aka. Delmonico Steak, Spencer Steak, Beauty Steak) ... Tender, flavorful, boneless cut of prime rib.
  • Rib Steak n/a) ... Rib-eye steak with bone.
  • Flatiron Steak (aka. Middle Blade Steak, Book Steak, Butler Steak) .. Tender, with a tough band down the middle.
Sirloin, plate and flank steaks have a robust, beefy flavor, and tend to be chewier. They're great marinated, then quickly grilled.
  • Flank Steak (aka. Jiffy Steak) ... Rich flavor; chewy; needs to be cut across the grain.
  • Skirt Steak (aka. Fajita Steak) ... Similar to flank steak but richer-tasting and juicer
  • Hanger Steak (aka. Butcher's Steak, Hanging Tender) . Chewier than skirt steak; needs to be sliced thinly.
  • Top Sirloin Steak (aka. Boneless Sirloin Butt Steak) ... Chewy, big flavor, good value.
  • Cube Steak (aka. Minute Steak) ... Great value, chewy; best for chicken-fried steak.
Chuck, round, and shank cuts are best for braising, pot roast, and slow-cooking like barbecue. Look for cuts with lots of connective tissue and bone for optimum tenderness.

  • Top Chuck Roast (aka. Blade Roast, Top Blade, London Broil) ... Juicy, great for braising, tender.
  • Center-Cut Chuck Roast (aka. 7-Bone Chuck Roast) . Quicker-cooking; bone-in so extra tender.
  • Brisket (aka. Point Cut; Flat Cut) ... Fatty, tender, good braised or smoked in barbecue.
  • Short Ribs (aka. Flaken) ... Available cut flat or in cubes; also good grilled
  • Oxtails (n/a) ... Fatty, tender, excellent value
Rib, short loin, sirloin, and round deliver tenderness and flavor. For roasting, look for larger cuts.

  • Top Round Roast (aka. London Broil, Breakfast Steak, Butterball Steak) ... Great for roast beef sandwiches; should be thinly sliced.
  • Tenderloin (aka. Fillet, Chateaubriand) ... Super-tender, mild flavor; perfect for beef Wellington.
  • Prime Rib (aka. Rib Roast) ... Flavorful, tender, juicy
  • Tri-Tip (aka. Triangle Roast, Steak Tips, Culotte Steak) ... Sold either whole or cut up; great for grilling
  • Top Sirloin (aka. Top Butt) ... Affordable, extra-flavorful

JOKES

A lesson to be learned from typing the wrong email address ...
A Minneapolis couple decided to go to Florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. They planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years before. Because of their hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minneapolis and flew to Florida on Thursday, with his wife flying down the following day. The husband checked into the hotel, and unlike years ago, there was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an email to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without noticing his error, sent the email. Meanwhile...somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister who was called home to glory after suffering a heart attack. The widow decided to check her email, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she screamed and fainted. The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and then glanced up and saw the computer screen which read:
    To: My Loving Wife
    Date: Thursday, October 13, 2004
    Subject:  I have arrived!
Dearest Love:  I know you are surprised to hear from me.  They have computers here now, and you are allowed to send emails to your loved ones.  I have just arrived and have been checked in.  I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow, and look forward to seeing you then.  Hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was!
P. S. Sure is HOT down here!

A man was telling his friend about his upstairs neighbors. "They started to jump up and down on the floor at five o'clock in the morning!"
His friend asked, "Well, didn't that disturb you? Didn't you complain?
"No - it didn't disturb me. I was practicing my trumpet."

The youth director had been trying for months to get the little boy down the street to come to church to be with his third grade Sunday school class.
Finally after talking to the boy and his mother for what seemed to be the hundredth time the boy finally agreed to go this next Sunday, which he did and seemed to enjoy all of the proceedings except as the baptismal service began he ran out the back door and ran all the way home. His mother asked him why did he run home instead of riding with the youth minister.
The little boy answered, "Its all a racket, They get you there and let you make all those nice things and tell you great stories just to get you relaxed so they can drown you at the end of one of the services.

A minister was completing a Temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."

With even greater emphasis he said, "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river." And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he said, "And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river."
Sermon complete, he sat down.  The song leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, nearly laughing, "For our closing song, let us sing Hymn  #365, "Shall We Gather at the River."

Smile, life is too short not to !!

HELOISE
  • If Crystal Glasses Look Cloudy After Washing:  Dip them into a warm full-strength vinegar rinse. Dry and look at them again. If the cloudiness has not disappeared, the glasses may be permanently etched with little scratches, which sadly cannot be removed.
  • To Make a Quick Room Freshener:  Add a bit of lemon or orange essential oil to cotton balls. Put into a small ceramic or glass bowl, so the fragrance will fill the air. Keep up and away from pets and small children.
  • To Clean Gold-Tone Faucets:  Mix baking soda with a bit of water and apply to a sponge. Wipe gently over water spots. Never press hard or use an abrasive cleaner. Rinse and wipe dry. Wipe with baby oil to make them sparkle.
  • Create a Holiday Potpourri:  Forage around outside to find pinecones, Hawthorne berries, and holly. Clean them to remove bugs and debris. Let dry and place into a glass or ceramic bowl. If you have dried flowers, add them too. Put a cinnamon stick or several drops of cinnamon, clove or orange oil in the bowl to create a wonderful aroma.
  • Take off Rings and Jewelry When You Clean:  If you are gardening or doing housework, remove your rings and jewelry because some cleaning products like bleach can harm gold and diamonds. And if you knock a ring against a hard surface, the stones could be loosened. Also don't wear jewelry when you swim because the chlorine could damage them too.

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY

First of all ... gotta say how fortunate we all are that our WGP was not hurt in his accident the other day.  Vehicles can be replaced ... but our Brother Terry certainly can't be!  He is unique!  I am so thankful that his Guardian Angel was riding co-pilot!  We saw what the effects of snow in the Seattle area can do to those driving the road ... as it snowed when we were attending the King County Secretary/Treasurer Luncheon last Saturday .. and later Sister Jill's Reception.  It was reported that Sister Barbara Saelid of Auburn Chapter fell on the ice Saturday and broke her leg in three places!  She was taken to the hospital where she went into surgery on Sunday, apparently.  I am sure she would enjoy Get Well Cards as it is going to be a long haul, so to speak!  Address:  Barbara Saelid, 11511 SE 312th Place, Auburn, WA 98092.
And I related to you about Sister Nancy Breza, Pine Tree Chapter, falling and breaking her wrist.  About the same time, her hubby, Brother Bob went into the hospital with cellulites (leg) for several days.  But he is now back to work ... and is doing much better.
Ted and I traveled to Colfax on Monday night to meet up with Grand Master Chuck McQuery and Grand Lecturer, Ken Callahan.  The men attended a Past Master's Night and I stayed in the hotel room and tried to get caught up on computer work.  It was a COLD trip and it was then that I figured out that the temperature that registers from the river side of our house is 10 degrees warmer than the side of the house that faces the road.  When Ted left me off in front of the house, the car registered 2°.  When I got inside, I immediately checked the thermometer that has the sensor on the other side of the house and it was 12°.  Both thermometers are accurate so go figure, huh!  But warmer weather is in store ... we had some snow flurries last evening and it was warmed up to 17°.  Bikini weather.
See you on Saturday at Sister Diane & Brother Roy's Reception!!!  Stay warm!
Until next time ... Hearty Patriot Hugs and happy thoughts.
