The Wall
There's a wall of
marble
Five
hundred feet long
Ten feet
high, scribed with names
Of those
who died, the strong.
There's more than
fifty-eight thousand
Etched upon
that stone
Most of
them died so young
This life,
they've never known.
It's such a small
tribute
To those
who fought our war
Such a
small price we pay
To those
who gave much more.
Their name carved
in a rock
That most
of us won't read
Not near
enough praise to give
For their
most gracious deed.
Seems there's too
many of us
Who don't
really seem to care
That we
stayed home secure and safe
While they
died over there.
Remember when you
see that Wall
With all
those initials and names
That those
men were only pawns
In one more
of those deadly games.
Let's hope what they gave had meaning
And that peace
will always reign -
That we won't have
to send our young
To fight and die
again.
As the nation pauses on November 11 to observe Veterans Day, give thanks for our 25 million military veterans, thanking God for their sacrifice, dedication and service to country. Pray for those who struggle with disabilities and pain, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, asking God to bring powerful healing and renewal. Pray that each one will know the gratitude of a thankful nation. God Bless!
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The time is passing so quickly and it will soon be the Holiday Season and plans are being made for the annual Christmas party for the former residents of the MRC located at the Landmark on the Sound. Since 2005, the residents of the MRC have been residing at different facilities located in many areas of Seattle. Also since that time, the Grand Family of the Grand Chapter of Washington has brought the residents that are able to travel, together for a Holiday party.
Last year they were brought to the Landmark on the Sound and the Order of Eastern Star Grand Officers and the Grand Officers of the Masonic Lodge, along with their ladies, joined together to welcome them home if only for a few hours. We provided refreshments and some light entertainment and they were presented with gift bags that were put together by the two organizations.
We are planning on continuing this tradition this year, and have set the date for December 9, 2007. There are funds available from the Finance Committees of the two organizations, so we will not be asking for donations again this year from the Chapters. Each resident will be give $20.00 in cash along with some toiletries and other Christmas gifts. We wanted to let all of you know that our friends from the MRC have not been forgotten, and have regular visits from their Masonic families.
The Magic Moments Grand Family wants to wish all of you happy Holidays and to keep all of our Sisters and Brothers in their prayers this season. You are also invited to join us on the 9th of December at 12:00 PM to meet and greet the residents.
Star love and HUGS ..

Worthy Grand Matron
Grand Chapter of Washington, OES ... September 25, 2007
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
As you know one of our projects last year was to save tabs off of the pop cans, beer cans, and any other tabs off of cans you could find. These were to go to the Ronald MacDonald House in Spokane to help people who needed to stay there while their children were in the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Spokane. The money made from this project goes to help buy supplies for the house so the people staying there don't have to do this. It is expensive enough when you have a child who needs medical help, even though the Shriners don't charge for the care. There are still travel expenses, food and many other costs.
We did very well and I want the membership to know how much we made on this project. 830 pounds of tabs were taken to Spokane by PGP Tom Schenewerk. We thank him very much for doing this. He was given 68 cents a lb. for the tabs, which added up to $564.40 as our total. Congratulations to everyone who participated! I know there was some competition going on between several different areas, which helped to increase the volume, so that was great and I think everyone involved enjoyed the competition.
This year Worthy Grand Matron Marjoe and Worthy Grand Patron Phil are continuing the project and hope to beat our total so let's help them do that and remember it is all going for a good cause and doesn't cost us anything to take the tabs off and turn them in to Worthy Grand Patron Phil!
Hearty Hugs and Patriot Love,
Joanne Clark, PGM

(11/2) The message below was sent at 9:15 PM Thursday night and I didn't read it until today. They will move Sam to Crista today.

Dear Family and Friends,
We just returned from Providence General Hospital in Everett and have gotten some great news. Sam has improved enough to be discharged tomorrow to the Rehab facility at Crista (the same facility where Betty lives in the Nursing Home). God is being very good to us and taking very good care of Dad.
We are happy as Crista is only 3 miles South of our house and this will make it so easy to be with both Betty and Sam. Please continue to remember Sam in your prayers. Thank you too from Sam for all the visits, phone calls, wonderful cards and Get Well wishes. This evening we read every card with Sam, and he remembered you all with a smile and comments to help us remember you too. He still has his great sense of humor
Thank you for the support and love you have given our family.

Prayers can still be used ...Sister Nancy Jo Tutino,PGM...
Hi Don and Connie,
Bev's information was accurate at the time and I gave her permission to share the news with you and to be placed in the Stars of Washington. I believe I am going to need as many prayers as possible to get through this trial. The working diagnosis I have received from Virginia Mason Cancer Institute on October 31st is "acinic cell carcinoma" - a rare slow growing type of cancer. Less than 1% of all cancer patients have this type. Because it is slow growing, it does not respond to chemotherapy. And they were reluctant to recommend radiation on my face. I have requested that my diagnostic reports be forwarded to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and I have an appointment with them on November 19th. I have tumors in both parotid glands and in a lymph gland on the left side of my esophagus as well as many small tumors throughout both lungs, the largest being one centimeter in size.
I am taking each day as it comes continuing to work at Central Washington University and enjoying all of the wonderful cards and letters I have received so far. I can never thank my sisters and brothers enough for taking the time out of their busy schedules to write the loving and personal notes I have received. And the phone calls have really touched my heart. I even gave a College of Knowledge presentation at Oasis Chapter this past Monday night.
I want to thank each person for their prayers and many kindnesses.

Does
anyone know a source for baby spoons? It's been a long time since some of
our Chapters have presented new mothers with a baby spoon and now there is a
need to do so, but we can't find a source for these items. I understand they
have been ordered from Gilbert's in the past, but upon checking, the Chapter
Secretary was told Gilbert's no longer is a supplier for Eastern Star. We
have been unable to find another source and are wondering if any of you
remember the practice of presenting spoons and if you have a source for
them.
Thanks for any help you can give us.

For silver spoons, try www.babyheirlooms.
Most good jewelers will have them also. What a nice idea.
