MOM

A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you.  And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."
Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"
God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel
will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
God said,” Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"Who will protect me?"
God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth
could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
God said,” You will simply call her, "Mom."

Lift a mother's spirit, send this to every mother you know (no matter how old her child is)!

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on May 15th.   In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil company's pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree, resend this to all your contact list.  Personally, I have no idea this will work ... but anything is worth a try.  But in our case and as much as the vehicle is on the road ... we would probably have to fill up sometime ... either it be the 14th or the 16th!

Interesting ...
Fraternal Greetings to all the members of the Eastern Star from here in Gosport, on the west side of Portsmouth Harbour, on the south coast of England-about 50 miles south of London. My name is Bethney-Jane Kelly and I am a member of Gosport St.Mary's Chapter No. 419 on the roll of the Supreme Grand Chapter in Scotland.
I have been a member for nearly 20 years and was Worthy Matron 2000-2001. I have been Worthy Patron for 3 consecutive years and Acting Worthy Matron last year as I was in fact Immediate Past Patron so couldn't be installed. There are 2 other Chapters here on the South coast and the nearest after that is in Corby, Northants some 150 miles away. I have always enjoyed the 'Star' and have travelled to Scotland nearly every year since I joined to attend the Supreme Grand Chapter Meeting on the 2nd Saturday in April. I am a Life Member of Supreme Grand Chapter. I have just returned from the Supreme Shrine Session in Tulsa, Oklahoma where it was my great pleasure to meet William Barnes Grand Patron.

A Mother's Day Story ...   as Shared by Laurel Wadley, Utah

So, we had this great 10 year old cat named Jack who just recently died. Jack was a great cat and the kids would carry him around and sit on him and nothing ever bothered him. He used to hang out and nap all day long on this mat in our bathroom.

Well we have 3 kids and at the time of this story they were 4 years old, 3 years old and 1 year old. The middle one is Eli. Eli really loves chapstick. LOVES it. He kept asking to use my chapstick and then losing it. So finally one day I showed him where in the bathroom I keep my chapstick and how he could use it whenever he wanted to but he needed to put it right back in the drawer when he was done.

Last year on Mother's Day, we were having the typical rush around and try to get ready for Church with everyone crying and carrying on. My two boys are fighting over the toy in the cereal box. I am trying to nurse my little one at the same time I am putting on my make-up. Everything is a mess and everyone has long forgotten that this is a wonderful day to honor me and the amazing job that is motherhood.

We finally have the older one and the baby loaded in the car and I am looking for Eli. I have searched everywhere and I finally round the corner to go into the bathroom. And there was Eli. He was applying my chapstick very carefully to Jack's . . rear end. Eli looked right into my eyes and said "chapped." Now if you have a cat, you know that he is right--their little butts do look pretty chapped. And, frankly, Jack didn't seem to mind.

And the only question to really ask at that point was whether it was the FIRST time Eli had done that to the cat's behind or the hundredth.

And THAT is my favorite Mother's Day moment ever because it reminds us that no matter how hard we try to civilize these glorious little creatures, there will always be that day when you realize they've been using your chapstick on the cat's butt.

Risk to Humans from Food Containing Melamine - FDA/UDSA finally issues official statement. Says low

According to the FDA...

"There is very low risk to human health from consuming meat from hogs and chickens known to have been fed animal feed supplemented with pet food scraps that contained melamine and melamine-related compounds, according to an assessment conducted by scientists from five federal agencies.

In the most extreme risk assessment scenario, when scientists assumed that all the solid food a person consumes in an entire day was contaminated with melamine at the levels observed in animals fed contaminated feed, the potential exposure was about 2,500 times lower than the dose considered safe. In other words, it was well below any level of public health concern.

The risk assessment is an important new science-based component of the continuing federal joint investigation into imported wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate from China that contained melamine and melamine-related compounds.

The risk assessment was conducted by scientists from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). This team is now compiling a scientific assessment of the risk to animal health associated with ingestion of animal feed containing melamine and its compounds.

FDA and USDA are in the process of identifying a group of experts to convene a scientific advisory board that would be charged with reviewing the risk assessment. This group would also be asked to contribute to future scientific analysis related to the risk of melamine and its compounds to humans and animals.

In the course of the investigation, it was discovered that pet food was contaminated by wheat gluten and rice protein concentrate that contained melamine and its compounds.       Subsequently, scraps of contaminated pet food that contained only low levels of melamine were distributed to farms in a limited number of states and added to the feed consumed by swine and poultry. These scraps constituted only a small percentage of the farm animal rations. In addition, melamine is known to be excreted in animal urine. When exposure levels are much higher, as was the case with cats and dogs, the melamine and its compounds appear to cause the formation of crystals in the kidney systems, resulting in kidney damage. There was no indication of kidney damage in hogs. Both hogs and chickens known to have been fed contaminated feed appear to be healthy.

This dilution factor was an important piece of data considered in the multi-agency science-based human risk analysis and helps to support the conclusion that there is very low risk to human health from eating meat from animals that were fed the contaminated product. This conclusion supports the decision announced on April 28 not to recall meat from animals that were fed contaminated product.

Currently, swine and poultry on farms suspected of receiving contaminated feed are being held under state quarantine or voluntarily by the owners. In several cases, feed samples have tested negative for melamine and related compounds. These tests were conducted by federal laboratories or state laboratories using approved methods. It is assumed that because only small amounts of the contaminated feed were mixed with other rations, the melamine and related compounds were no longer detectable. USDA has concluded that, based on the human risk assessment and the inability to detect melamine in the feed samples, these animals no longer need to be quarantined or withheld from processing.

In other cases, feed samples have tested positive for melamine and related compounds; feed samples were not available; or feed samples have not yet been submitted for testing. These animals continue to be withheld from processing, but are not yet being culled, pending the results of the animal risk assessment. This assessment is expected to be completed within one week. At that time, USDA will determine whether these animals can be released for inspection and further processing.

USDA and FDA continue to conduct a full and comprehensive investigation. As additional information is confirmed, updates will be provided and decisions will be made using the best available science to protect the public's health.

To ensure no further contaminated products enter the U.S., the federal government will continue to monitor imported wheat and corn gluten as well as rice protein concentrate and isolates arriving from all countries destined for human and animal consumption. The FDA import alert for these products sourced from China remains in effect and U.S. Customs and Border Protection will continue laboratory testing of the products as they enter the U.S. The inspections are a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of products entering at U.S. ports of entry. There is no evidence to suggest products bound for the human food supply are contaminated."

-- The above information has been obtained from the Food and Drug administration

Isn't this great to know?    We ALL better get back to the basics and cook nothing but home-grown stuff!  Reckon the city will allow a cow, pig, lamb, and some chickens in our backyard?  And don't forget the garden!  Then watch out for acid-rain!  Always something!

LOWRY'S HINTS

HINT 1:  Getting Rid of that Burnt Popcorn Smell in the Microwave:  To get rid of this awful lingering stink, fill as large microwave-safe bowl with one cup of water and sprinkle your favorite spice like cinnamon or add several drops of vanilla or lemon extract. Bring to a boil. You must let it sit inside for 10 to 15 minutes to cool down. Simply wipe the walls down with paper towels. Leave the door open to further air it out.
              * * * * * *
HINT 2:   The Case of the Dirty Vase:  To remove those tough stains from the bottom of a glass vase, just fill with water and add two Alka- Seltzer tablets!

                * * * * * *
HINT 3: Stick To The List!  One way to stop from buying everything in the store is to keep yourself from wandering throughout every aisle. Make a list before you leave home and just go down the aisle your  list tells you to. This way you will avoid buying unnecessary items.
                * * * * * *
HINT 4:    Before you go to the store for spring gardening supplies, check out your kitchen utensil drawer. Old spoons, spatulas and more can be used to dig, smooth and weed plants in pots or small areas.

JOKES

A screenwriter comes home to a burned down house. His sobbing and slightly-singed wife is standing outside. "What happened, honey?" the man asks.
"Oh, John, it was terrible," she weeps. "I was cooking, the phone rang. It was your agent. Because I was on the phone, I didn't notice the stove had caught on fire. It went up in seconds. Everything is gone. I nearly didn't make it out of the house. Poor Fluffy is gone..."
"Wait! Back up a minute," the man says. "My agent called?"

For all their lives, my three sons have been told they have to do their chores around the house.
"I am  NOT the maid" is a phrase they've heard many times.
When my oldest went off to college, he called me after one week at school. Among the first words he heard at college, he reported, were those of the dormitory maid, announcing to a student who had not picked up after himself in the men's lavatory,
    "I am NOT your mother!"

Co-workers sympathized as my mother complained that her back was really sore from moving furniture.
"Why don't you wait till your husband gets home?" someone asked.
"I could," my mother told the group," but the couch is easier to move if he's not on it."

HELOISE
  • Removing Candle Wax from Carpet:  Fill a metal pan with ice cubes. Place it right on top of the candle wax and leave until the wax is frozen solid. Then hit it with a small hammer to break up the wax. Pick up or vacuum the wax bits.  Pour dry-cleaning solvent onto a clean cloth to get rid of any remaining residue on the carpet.

  • Storing Dry Pet Food:  Pour the contents of big bags of dry food into a metal or plastic can with a secure lid. Keep a scoop inside, and shut it tightly after every use, so rodents or bugs don't get into it to help themselves to dinner.

AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY

Good Morning!  It is now 5 AM and the birds are singing up a storm.  I love this time of year ... almost as much as I love winter!
What a day we had yesterday!  Spent the ENTIRE day in the hospital as our daughter had surgery!  And thankfully, everything went well, but she woke up in lots of pain.  At times, she looked like she was playing Jeopardy ... pushing THE button all the time (for pain meds LOL).  And now today ... another busy day!  Ted has PT and we have Marilyn's Honor Night this evening.  Will be fun, I know .. well some of it I am sure (don't believe he is looking forward to PT'ing!)!
You notice that there are a few more reminders?  I received Ode Cards this week from Sara Hicks (Greenwood).  That's it since Sunday!
Until next time ... Hearty Patriot Hugs and happy thoughts.
