THE STARS OF WASHINGTON

December 31st, 2006

HAPPY NEW YEAR IN 2007 ... TOAST TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR!

May your home always be too small
To hold all of your friends.

May you live as long as you want
And never want as long as you live.

May the good Lord take a liking to you,
  But not too soon.

May you have warm words on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill all the way to your door.
>
> May your neighbors respect you,
> Trouble neglect you,
> The angels protect you, and heaven accept you.
>
Dance as if no one were watching,
Sing as if no one were listening
And live every day as if it were your last.

PRAYERS NEEDED ... MWGP Bill Owen

UPDATE ... The following is this mornings update from Sister Barbara Benton about Brother Bill Owen, MWGP. Sounds as though he is not doing as well as he should be by this time. We need to continue to hold him and Evelina up in prayer and positive thoughts.
Take care all on this New Year weekend. Best wishes for a Happy New Year to each of you on my email list.
With Star Love and Bear Hugs,
** Linda Hattrick, Worthy Grand Esther

Well, Evelina's report on Bill last night said that the "machine" is still on Bill to help him breath--they tried to take it off but his oxygen in the blood stream was low so they are keeping it on him.  They are going to try again today to remove it.  She says he is kind of "puffy" due to excess fluid so they are giving him medication for that.  Evelina remains encouraged.  She stays all day and her close family stays at night.  Bill stays sedated and she wants to be there with him when he really "wakes" up.  Keep those prayers going and I'll get back to you again as soon as I know anything else from Evelina.  BB

OES CHAPTERS CALENDAR
(as taken from your Ode Cards ... includes everything, hopefully!, except Official Visits and those are listed in the Masonic Calendar.  It has been suggested that I highlight all the Chapters on the Westside one color and on the Eastside another color.  Let me know if you like this arrangement.  The Cascades will be the dividing point!)

Subject: FW: RE: Wilma Tindell

Bonnie, I just wanted to give you an update on how H. L. Wilma is doing as of the 26th of December.  I talked to the doctor this morning and he said that she would probably be in the hospital for another week.  The cause of the infection was a streptococcus bacteria which turned into a flesh eating virus and caused some bad problems.  They have the virus under control at the present time but want to follow it for another week.  She will be glad to get back home again.

Best wishes for everyone for the New Year.

Love, Tommie

President Ford's Services ...
Just a note to tell the List Group that I belong to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church where President Ford's funeral services will be held shortly. No, I won't be attending the services! It is awesome to believe that our "little church" will be on national TV. Actually, the Church is not small but I watched it being built some years ago. I understand this ceremony has been planned for some time as is customary with high profile people. Our local TV showed the rehearsals all day yesterday (Thursday). I've had the privilege of taking communion with President and Mrs. Ford and chatting with Mrs. Ford during coffee. Just wanted you to know that someone "out here" has somewhat of a "tie" with todays activities.

Aloha ...
Aloha to my CO sisters and brothers, and Mele Kalekemaka!!!!!  It was great seeing y'all at GGC in MN! I sure do miss all y'all!!!
I made a quick trip to CO earlier this month to see my son, Brother Glen Brown, graduate from the Colorado State Patrol Academy. I was one proud
mamma, for sure! Interestingly, his graduation ceremony was held at the Shrine Mosque in Denver (Glen was a Shrine patient years ago); on the CO State Patrol badge is the All Seeing Eye in a triangle; since inception, only one Colorado State Patrol Chief WAS NOT a Mason!!! Hmmmmmmmm.........
Wishing you much Aloha in the New Year!!

Something to think about ...
There are several things you can do to help manage your stress levels.  Regular exercise can be the single best approach to relieving stress.  Physical activity can reduce stress (walking, running or bicycling.)  Stretching following exercise aldo helps to relieve muscle tension.  Talk to someone about it.  By expressing your feelings to others you will be able to understand and cope with them more successfully.  Laughing (or crying) helps to release tension and decrease stress.  Having hobbies or finding activities that you enjoy can also take your mind away from stress for a period of time and allow you to relax.

Correction?
Just a little correction to your last issue.  You may get many of these, but it *does* prove your issues are being read!
This native Minnesotan, PM of Laurel #47 in Washington State, now living in Australia knows that it isn't Ataska where the headwaters of the Mississippi are located - it is 'Itaska'.  It also just happens to be where my sister spent her honeymoon over 25 years ago...
Just to let you know, Christmas here in Brisbane yesterday was a balmy day, with partly cloudy skies.  Temperatures were in the upper 20's (over 80F) and there was a light breeze.  Marty went surfing in the afternoon, and Christmas found us a new puppy to keep our older dog Lace company.  Sam has all the charm that puppies do, and no hint of jealousy from Lace.  We are getting used to their play antics, but it is hard not to chuckle from time to time...
I miss all of you and send a Merry Christmas to all my brothers and sisters in Washington OES.

Oh where oh where can they be?
     Merry Christmas!
This morning, I sent emails to all of the GGC Ambassadors and three emails were returned. (don't know why!) If any of our group live in their city, will you
please call and pass this message.
Today, word was sent from our MWGM Barbara Benton, about the surgery on MWGP William Owen.
It was necessary to remove a portion of both his upper and lower colon. No cancer was found.
He returned to surgery this morning about 3 AM to correct bleeding. He will be kept under sedation for the next hours. Sister Barbara asked for all to lift Brother Bill and his family in prayer. Cards to his home address: 6609 NW 128th Circle, Oklahoma City, OK 73118.
The three Sisters I could not contact this morning: Jeanne Castle, PGM MN; Donna Yanz, PGM CO; and Margaret Hull, PGM OK. Thank you for your help!
May each of you enjoy a most blessed Christmas .

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!

You all mean a lot to us.  We are not giving gifts or card this year as we are just giving to CHARITY.

Bill made a trip back to the Rose Bud Indian Reservation in June  with the pickup and trailer full of items from Wrap Them in Love.  We split the cost of gas with Ellen's Wrap them in Love for Charity.

He also went the last of November and took a load of clothes and blankets to the Rose Bud Res.  They are so appreciative of everything and have so little.  This was just our expence this time.

When he called home I told him we had a foot of snow & power had been off and on several times.  He couldn't make it up the hill with the pickup so parked it and walked the rest of the way home.

We're fine here and hope you all are the same.

I'm still sewing and making quilts for the Orphans.  It's a very worthwhile project for charity.  They need all the help they can get.  See, www.wraptheminlove.org .All the quilts that have been donated are shown.  Plus lots of other things Ellen has going on.

MINUTE MAN AWARDS

WGM Joanne Clark is honoring the Masons at the Official Visits this year.  She is selecting a Mason from a list given to her form the Worthy Matrons of each Chapter.  They will be called the "Minuteman" to go along with her patriotic theme. To qualify for the award, the Mason must be a 10 year member of Eastern Star, have served as Worthy Patron in the Chapter, and been active in the Chapter.  The pins are beautiful and were purchased from Dave Hattrick of ID, now residing for a spell in AZ.
So let's give these outstanding Masons some credit for all their work they do for our beautiful Order!  I will need some help here so please let me know who has been given this award in your Chapter during the Official Visit.
(For July, August, September and October ... please check in the archives on Connie's Corner on the GC of WA's website ... www.washingtonoes.org.  - the last list published in its entirety was in issue #6-052.)

BISHOP'S GIFT

Once a church had fallen upon hard times. Only five members were left: the pastor and four others, all over 60 years old.
In the mountains near the church there lived a retired Bishop. It occurred to the pastor to ask the Bishop if he could offer any advice that might save the church. The pastor and the Bishop spoke at length, but when asked for advice, the Bishop simply responded by saying, "I have no advice to give. The only thing I can tell you is that the Messiah is one of you."
The pastor, returning to the church, told the church members what the Bishop had said. In the months that followed, the old church members pondered the words of the Bishop. "The Messiah is one of us?" they each asked themselves. As they thought about this possibility, they all began to treat each other with extraordinary respect on the off chance that one among them might be the Messiah. And on the off, off chance that each member himself might be the Messiah, they also began to treat themselves with extraordinary care.
As time went by, people visiting the church noticed the aura of respect and gentle kindness that surrounded the five old members of the small church. Hardly knowing why, more people began to come back to the church. They began to bring their friends, and their friends brought more friends. Within a few years, the small church had once again become a thriving church, thanks to the Bishop's gift.
