THE STARS OF WASHINGTON

October 2nd, 2006

Come with me, no shoes allowed, let's go barefoot in the grass.
Hold my hand, as we remember, all the summers of the past.
Eating ice cream in the sunshine, as it dribbles down our arms.
Playing hopscotch and singing songs, Like "Old McDonald had a farm".
Orange soda and Kool-Aid pops and cooking hotdogs on the grill.
Trying to see who the strongest was, who would be King of the Hill?
Sitting by the lakeside, squishing sand between our toes.
Chasing fireflies in the night sky, never knowing why they glowed.

Summer rains that gently fell and washed my little face.
Sitting down at supper time, with family saying grace.
Thank you Lord for giving me these precious memories.
Older now but remembering, with every summer breeze.

Sadness ...
It is with a heavy heart that I am reporting the death of Leland 'Pip' Morris, Associate Patron of Okanogan Chapter, who died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 18th.  I have heard that he was Worshipful Master of his Lodge in Okanogan, too.  I first met him this past summer at the Square & Compass Jamboree, held at the Wenatchee River County Park in Monitor.  He and his wife Betty were the chief cooks at the Breakfast on Sunday morning ... an annual event known as Breakfast by the Okanogan Bunch.  The day before, when we all played golf in Leavenworth, Brother Pip won a prize of which he was very proud.
His Masonic Service was held on Thursday the 21st at 1:00 PM at the Agriplex Building at the Okanogan Fairgrounds. Worshipful Brothers John MacDonald and Don Mackenzie were in charge of the service.
I know that he will be sorely missed in the Masonic Fraternity, Eastern Star, and the rest of the Masonic Family.
Cards of condolences may be sent to his wife Betty at 65 Simons RD, Okanogan, 98840.

News from Kansas ...
In Kansas, the line to the Grand East begins with whomever wants to run for Grand Associate Conductress submitting their name to the Grand Secretary the day before and being presented to the voting delegates at election time.
One requirement is that they must have held a Grand floor office at one time or another. Many times, the Grand Marshal does go on but, I think, that's because they have so much more exposure at Grand Chapter than other floor officers since the Grand Marshal is the one who designs and directs all the marches for the Grand Officers, Representatives, Pages and Guards. The only certain officer that moves from the floor to the line is the Grand Sentinel in Kansas.

Prayers needed for Montana PGP Tom Miller ...
CYBER CHAT
Thursday September 28, 2006
I've been in email contact with PGM Kathy Miller and Tom is having serious medical problems.  She gave permission to place info in the newsletter and request prayers.  The Miller's like their privacy, but Kathy said I could hit the highlights.
This past week PGP Tom was given procedures to alleviate a medical problem.  At first all appeared to work well, but then everything went haywire.  He was admitted to the hospital and underwent additional procedures to counteract his reaction.
Through all of this his kidneys temporarily shut down, his glucose level went on a wild roller coaster ride, and his potassium elevated.  In additional tests they discovered a mass of ulcers.  To restart his kidneys they put in two ports for dialysis in his jugular vein and one leaked badly.  They worked on him for nine hours to stop the bleeding.
The good news is the kidneys are now functioning again and they are transitioning from these intense medical procedures and putting him back on his normal meds.  They are anticipating releasing him to go home within a day or two.
Kathy says, "Please keep us in your prayers; I'm living proof that they work!"
Cards may be sent to them at

Sadness in Montana ...
CYBER CHAT
Saturday September 30, 2006
We have some sadness is our Grand Family.
On Wednesday, September 20th, Sister Shirley Obernolte, Grand Organist, 2004-2005, and also Grand Organist 1989-1990 for Sister Dorothy Brook and Brother Claude Roswurm, passed to the Grand Chapter on High.  Her memorial service was this afternoon (9/29) at 2:00 p.m. in Choteau.  Sister Shirley loved her Eastern Star, she wrote songs for many of our PGMs and PGPs, she served as Grand Representative of North Carolina and was on many Grand Committees.  In addition to the songs, she wrote she also wrote poetry.  At the end of her bio that we write as Grand Officers, she wrote, "It's a small world, after all.  I play from the heart, no matter what the age of the audience."  She also wrote the following poem:
            Wheel lines, with arms out-stretched,
Blessing the fields with man-made showers.
Birds on the wing, singing the praises of mountain flowers.
Deer, elk, wolves and bears --- optical feasts, on hooves and paws.
Montana, wild and free, a land for all, eternally.
God views his work, from up above.   Montana made with love.    She will truly be missed.
Please keep Shirley's family and Victory Chapter #86 of Conrad in your prayers.

Prayers needed ...
    Connie--

I just wanted to let OES people know that our granddaughter Danielle Carriveau was just diagnosed with Type I Diabetes (also know as Juvenile Diabetes).  She will be at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma through Thursday (September 28th) while they do tests and determine her medication levels.  Danielle has played in the last three OES Charity Golf Tournaments so many know her from that event.  She is 15 years old so this is going to be a major life adjustment for her and her family.  She has a real positive attitude and is determined that it will not prevent her from playing golf and/or fastpitch.  Please keep the family in your prayers during this time.

LODGE CLOSING CHARGE ...

Several Saturdays ago ...  at WGP Terry’s Reception, he ended the day reciting a modified version of the Lodge Closing Charge which is most appropriate and applicable to the members of the Eastern Star as well as to the Masons.  For those who had never heard it before, here is a brief synopsis of the message it portrays, written by my hubby who, along with MW Bill Wood and MW Al Jorgensen, have utilized this after the Chapter was closed by request of the Worthy Matron.  Anyway, it was most inspiring and thank you Brother Terry!

‘Masons have a Lodge Closing Charge which is intended to inspire & motivate the Brethrens as they are preparing to depart the inter-sanctorum of their Blue Lodge.  It says that they have a moral and steadfast obligation to conduct and perform their behavior and charitable acts, not only to Brother Masons but toward ALL mankind, while outside the Lodge according to the obligations that they verbally subscribed to at the Altar when the three degrees were conferred upon them.’

New Address

Hi Connie!!

We are really in a mess right now and it is a wonder our computer isn't packed!!!!

Everything gets loaded up this weekend - either in a POD, taken to our daughter's to store in a big garage, going with us to another daughter to live for a month or to some other close friends for storage.

Yes, we have sold our house and have to be out by Tuesday.  Our new modular home in a 55 and over gated community (yes - we do qualify!!) is not finished yet and the completion date is sometime in November.

Eventually, our new address will be 1917 176th St. Ct. E., Spanaway, WA 98387.  In the meantime, we don't have a phone other than a cell phone and we have given that number out to those who really need it....

Please put part or all of this in your next Star.

Star love,

** Donna & Gary - the Craigs without a home!!!  But very excited about our new beautiful home all on one level!! (9/22)

MINUTE MAN AWARDS

WGM Joanne Clark is honoring the Masons at the Official Visits this year.  She is selecting a Mason from a list given to her form the Worthy Matrons of each Chapter.  They will be called the "Minuteman" to go along with her patriotic theme. To qualify for the award, the Mason must be a 10 year member of Eastern Star, have served as Worthy Patron in the Chapter, and been active in the Chapter.  The pins are beautiful and were purchased from Dave Hattrick of ID, now residing for a spell in AZ.
So let's give these outstanding Masons some credit for all their work they do for our beautiful Order!  I will need some help here so please let me know who has been given this award in your Chapter during the Official Visit.
