MY CLASS REUNION
Every ten years, as summertime nears,
An announcement arrives in the mail.
A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand,
Make plans to attend without fail!
I'll never forget the first time we met
We tried so hard to impress.
We drove fancy cars, smoked big cigars,
And wore our most elegant dress.
The men all conversed about who had been first
To achieve great fortune and fame.
Meanwhile their spouses described their fine houses
And how beautiful their children became.
The homecoming queen, who once had been lean,.
Now weighed in at 196.
The jocks who were there had all lost their hair,
And the cheerleaders could no longer do kicks!
The boy we'd decreed 'most apt to succeed'
Was serving ten years in the pen.
While the one voted 'least' was now a priest;
Just shows you can be wrong now and then.
At our next get-together, no one cared whether
They impressed their classmates or not.
The mood was informal, a whole lot more normal,
By this time we'd all gone to pot!
By the fiftieth year, it was abundantly clear,
We were definitely over the hill!
Those who weren't dead had to crawl out of bed,
And be home in time for their pill!
And now I can't wait as they've set the date
Our sixtieth is coming I'm told.
It should be a ball; they've rented a hall
At the Shady Rest Home for the Old!
Repairs have been made on my old hearing aid,
My pacemaker has been turned up high.
My wheelchair is oiled, and my teeth have been boiled,
And I've bough a new wig and glass eye.
I'm feeling quite hearty ... I'm ready to party,
I'll dance until dawn's early light.
It'll be lots of un, and I hope at least one
Other person can make it that night!

SADNESS ... Passing of Sister Bess
Sprenger
Just a note to let all know...
Mary Linker and Ann Hankins' mother,
Bess Sprenger, passed away Monday about noon at Parkside Nursing

the MM Masonic Travel Club of NCT.
Her
funeral will be held Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 PM at Valley Hills funeral

SCAMS
NEW: Clever Chase Bank
Customer Survey Phishing Scam
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
This Chase phishing scam came close to fooling a very good friend of
ours. It's quite clever. By the way, if you don't know what phishing scams
are, please
visit:
http://www.scambusters.org/phishing.html
Anyway, here's how this new Chase phishing
scam works: The subject of the spaham (misspelled intentionally) is:
Customer Survey - Get $50 Reward
The spaham email starts with: The Chase Online department kindly asks
you to take part in our quick and easy 5 question survey. In return we will
credit $50.00 to your account - Just for your time!
It goes on to describe how it only takes two
minutes, your answers will help them yada yada, etc. It's well done and
looks authentic.
Of course, the spaham doesn't really take you to the Chase Bank website.
Instead, it takes you to a scammer's site in China.
The webpage itself and the initial questions they ask look quite
authentic.
The catch, of course, is that they say that in order to credit your $50
reward, they want your Chase User ID and password, as well as your Chase
credit card number, expiration date, three digit security number, Social
Security number, ATM PIN Number, zip code, mother's maiden name and email.
Our friend figured out it was a scam when he saw the last batch of info
requested. ;-)
However, the ploy of using a $50 reward for a customer service survey
can be an effective phishing lure.
What to do: Never click on links from spaham emails. Absolutely never
enter your private information into a website from an email with a link --
whether it's to check your account info, resolve a fraudulent order, respond
to a customer service survey, etc.
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
NEW: Phishing Scams Now Use Phones Instead of Fake Websites
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
In a new twist, identity thieves are sending spaham that warns victims
that their bank account or PayPal accounts were supposedly compromised.
Nothing new so far. However, unlike typical phishing emails, there is no
website address in these phishing messages. Instead, the victim is urged to
call a phone number to verify account details.
The automated voice
message says: "Welcome to account verification. Please type your 16-digit
card number."
The goal is to get the victim to enter their credit card number. In
these reported scams, no mention of the bank or PayPal is made.
You can see a sample scam email message (and hear an example of one of
these scam voice messages by clicking on the Recording Link at the Websense
Security Lab site) here:
http://www.websense.com/securitylabs/alerts/alert.php?AlertID=534
What to do: Never call a
number you receive from a spaham email, and certainly don't enter in any
private information if you make a mistake and do call. If you want to call
your bank, use the normal phone number you regularly use, not the phone
number you get in an email. You can read more about this scam here:
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1985966,00.asp
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
NEW: Very Clever Citibank Phishing Scam
<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>~<>
Another interesting phishing scam, this time supposedly from Citibank's
Citibusiness service, warns that someone tried to log into your account and
you must now "confirm" your account info.
Again, that's hardly new. The phishing spaham takes you to a very
convincing replica of the Citibusiness login page, including a long web
address that looks like it ends with Citibank.com, but in fact goes to a
website in Russia.
The login page asks for your user name, password, and a token-generated
key that Citibusiness customers are used to. The phishing site passes the
info to the real Citibusiness site, so if you intentionally put in bogus
info, you'll get the real error messages from Citibusiness. It's very
cleverly
done.
What to do: Again, don't click on links in spaham emails to "confirm"
your account info. If you have a question, use your browser and directly
type in the web address of your bank, etc.
For more info on this phishing scam, visit:
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2006/07/citibank_phish_spoofs_2factor_1.html
That's it for now -- time to close for today.
Wishing you a wonderful week.

LOWRY'S HINTS
HINT 1: Hint
to relieve the sting from mild sunburn: To relieve the stinging from a
mild burn or sunburn mix a paste of water and Baking Soda and apply to
the area. You can also add baking soda to a cool bath and that will soothe
the sunburn too.
* *
* * * * * *
HINT 2 : Hint to relieve the pain from insect bites:
Meat tenderizer can be used to relieve the pain and itching from insect
bites - just dissolve 1/4 teaspoon
of tenderizer in water and apply to bite.
* * * * * * * *
HINT 3: A Safe Way to Light Candles On A Cake: You
didn't work all day creating that beautiful birthday cake, complete with
decorations and all, just to get messed up with dripping wax as you
try to light the candles with short matches or dripping candles. You can
show how clever you are by going to your cabinets and get out a long
piece of raw spaghetti and light it. You will be able to light
the candles without drips, waste of matches, and especially no burned
fingers!
*
* * * * * * *
HINT 4: To hard cook eggs, place in a pan of cold water to
cover. Bring to a boil and remove the pan from the heat. Cover and let
stand 20 minutes. Immediately rinse in cold water. The eggs will be
tender, the yolk will be an even yellow and there will be no grey
ring.

HINT 5: When making Deviled eggs...Try this ... Keep yolks
centered in eggs by stirring the water while cooking hard-boiled eggs.

HELOISE
-
Using Gelatin: Try this time saving hint: Sprinkle powdered gelatin
over boiling hot water instead of adding cold water to it. Then it will mix
more easily and faster.
-
Dealing with Pastry Brushes: To clean some pastry brushes, put them
into the dishwasher to do the job. To save time, you can store buttered
pastry brushes in the freezer in a zipper-type plastic bag...just pull out
to grease pans
-
Cookie Repair: If the bottom of cookies you have baked are too
brown/burned, you can rub it off with the coarse side of your vegetable
grater. No one will ever know!
-
Eliminating Mustard Stains: Get to them fast. Lightly dampen the
stained area and rub liquid laundry detergent into the stains. Then rinse
and soak in laundry detergent and hot water for several hours. Finally,
launder with an enzyme detergent
-
Homemade Heavy-Duty Cleaner: To clean badly soiled surfaces (not
marble or granite), dip half a lemon in borax powder and scrub the area,
rinse well and dry. This will work just as well as commercial
cleaners.

- When you compliment people it's because you use flattery to get your

The first-time Father was taking a turn at feeding the baby some
strained peas. Naturally, there were traces of the food everywhere,
especially on the infant.
His wife comes in, looks at the infant, then at her husband staring into
space, then says, "What in the world are you doing?"
He replied, "I'm waiting for the first coat to dry, so I can put on
another."
AND A WORD FROM YOURS TRULY ...
Am taking a
break from the ironing ... why is it that things have to be ironed once
again? Remember 'wash & wear'? And now it is back to 100% cotton and
ironing! Good grief! We certainly aren't evolving when it comes to manual
housework, me thinks!
Had a surprise
visit today from Connie Hamilton of Ohio. She belongs to Chapters in
both West Virginia and Ohio. She was initiated into our Chapter here in
Newport by her mother and father 50 plus years ago. We became acquainted
when she came out and visited our Chapter... the first time I was WM.
We have kept in touch ... and thankfully, Ted and I had gotten home from
Spokane about an hour or so before she arrived at our door. Had a great
visit.
Is supposed to
be around 105° here by weekend ... just what we need ... sizzling heat for
the District Meeting's BBQ on Sunday afternoon. One good thing about it is
that the park in Deer Park is full of shade trees. YAHOO!
We are having
a house full this weekend ... so have to get the top layer of dust off of
everything by tomorrow afternoon! And the floor mopped! Boy howdy! It is
sure sticky ... and if you aren't fleet of foot, you could be stuck in some
areas for days! I must get carried away when I cut watermelon!
We celebrated
Daddy's 101st birthday with family at the Old Country Buffet in Lewiston
this past Sunday. He had his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren
and one great-great grandson who was named James Bass about six months ago
... and who we call JB for short. Seems his daddy is a bass fisherman ...
thus, the name. Something like Al & Nancy Jorgensen's grandson being named
Mason ... who was born the same night as a Lodge meeting! Once upon a time
(here we go again ...) when I was in the hospital having our last child, I
shared the room with a young lady by the last name of Bird. She named her
baby girl ROBIN!
Until next
time ... Star hugs and happy thoughts.

I
would sure appreciate your sending me your Ode Cards when finished!
Sure helps with this publication! I received several Ode Cards at
Grand Chapter and have found them, me thinks! I can't remember who
gave them to me, but I know that I received Ode Cards from:
Cedar Chapter
Crown Chapter
Nesika Chapter (Kay Johnson,
Secretary)
Remember! Some mistakes are
too much fun to only make once.
Star hugs and
God Bless
America!
Connie
