THE STARS OF WASHINGTON

There's a dear little plant that grows in Ireland.

'Twas Saint Patrick himself sure that set it.

And the sun on his labor with pleasure did smile.

And a tear from his eyes oft-times wet it.

It grows through the bog ...

Through the brake, and through the mireland.

And it's called the dear little Shamrock of Ireland. (Irish Blessing)

IN SADNESS

Robert Lee Fletcher
(March 29, 1923 - February 2, 2006)

To view video tribute online, click the link below:   http://videos.lifetributes.com/?id=2491

Memorial service will be held March 10th, 2006 at 2 pm at the W.P. Dougherty Masonic Center. 3819 North 27th St. Reception to follow service at same location. Tacoma, WA 98407.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandmother, grandfather, mother, father and 2 brothers. He is survived by a brother Walter, and a sister Betty Brush. He is also survived by his sister in laws Marianne, Sandra and Alice. Several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and one great-great niece.

We are working on setting up a memorial service, check back for details in a few days.  Robert was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 29, 1923 to Vera May Lufkin and Robert Earl Graham. His mother remarried to Walter Fletcher. He has lived in Minnesota, California and Washington. He did a lot of different types of jobs during his life, mainly at Sawmills in Tacoma. The last 35 to 40 years he lived and worked at the Temple Theater for the Masonic Grand Lodge, as the assistant to the Grand Secretary Emeritus, as well as helping the present owners of the Landmark Convention Center.   Robert belonged to the Master Masons at Defiance Lodge #22 and Fern Hill #80.   He was a life member of Corinthian Chapter #172 order of the Eastern star. He was also a member of the Afifi Shrine, Royal Arch Masons, Elks and numerous other organizations.

Robert was a very generous person. He was always doing something for someone other than himself. He would take his nieces and nephews to the Seattle Center or to a movie and to dinner. One place all the kids would look forward to was going to the Afifi Shrine Circus each year. He was always giving them little things just because that was what he did. He never had a pocket that didn’t have candy or a squeaky noise maker in it. He even shared his candy with the children he met while riding on the city bus. He never wasted a day without taking a ride on the city bus, where would he go, only he knew that. Sometimes just around the city and sometimes to Seattle and even Olympia, when he just wanted to ride.

When his grandmother and grandfather were alive he would go on vacation with them and take them all over the West Coast because he loved them and wanted to do special things for them. He was a very warm and special person who only wanted to please everyone who walked beside him.

He will be missed by everyone. We all know he is back with his family and until we meet again there will be an empty place in all our lives.

WE LOVE YOU ROBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Connie,
The time for Everett Chapter's Installation is 7:30 PM.  Please add this to your list.
At our Official Visit on February 21 we honored our Sister Connie Silliman.  She reached the young age of 100 this past July. She also is now a 78 year member and we had the honor of presenting her with her certificate and pin. WGM Ann presented the certificate while I did the pin. Connie is very special to us and we were glad to honor her this way.
We also were able to give a 75 year pin to our Sister Evelyn Tyler in Nov.  With the help of Lexington Chapter in Lexington SC, Sister Evelyn was presented her pin and certificate just 2 weeks before she went to the Great Chapter on High. We are told that she had her pin at her bedside in the hospital and it was on her gown at her passing. It was a real priviledge to arrange for this presentation to be done on our behalf.
Though this was exciting, it just goes to show the age of many members of our beautiful Order.

HOW TO INSTALL A WIRELESS SECURITY SYSTEM
1.  Go to a second-hand store, buy a pair of men's used work boots, a really big pair.
2.  Put them outside your front door on top of a copy of Guns and Ammo magazine.
3.  Put a dog dish beside it, a really big dish.
4.  Leave a note on your front door that says something like:  "Bubba - Big Mike and I have gone to get more ammo - back in 15 minutes. Don't disturb the Pitbulls, they've just been wormed and are really mad .."     Signed, Billy Bob

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible.  He picked up the object and looked at it.  What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found!" the boy called out. " What have you got there, dear? " his mother asked.   With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear."

  • Murphy told Quinn that his wife was driving him to drink.  Quinn thinks he's very lucky because his own wife makes him walk.
  • The late Bishop Sheen stated that the reason the Irish fight so often among themselves is that they're always assured of having a worthy opponent.

  • Question - Why are Irish jokes so simple? Answer - So the English can understand them.
  • Reilly went to trial for armed robbery. The jury foreman came out and announced, "Not guilty." "That's grand!" shouted Reilly. "Does that mean I can keep the money?"
  • Irish lass customer: "Could I be trying on that dress in the window?" Shopkeeper: "I'd prefer that you use the dressing room."
  • Mrs. Feeney shouted from the kitchen, "Is that you I hear spittin' in the vase on the mantle piece?" "No," said himself, "but I'm gettin' closer all the time."
  • Q. What do you call an Irishman who knows how to control a wife? A. A bachelor.
  • Finnegin: My wife has a terrible habit of staying up 'til two o'clock in the morning. I can't break her of it. Keenan: What on earth is she doin' at that time? Finnegin: Waitin' for me to come home.
  • Slaney phoned the maternity ward at the hospital. "Quick!" He said. "Send an ambulance, my wife is goin' to have a baby!" "Tell me, is this her first baby?" the intern asked. "No, this is her husband, Kevin, speakin'."
  • "O'Ryan," asked the druggist, "did that mudpack I gave you improve your wife's appearance?" "It did surely," replied O'Ryan, "but it keeps fallin' off!"
  • My mother wanted me to be a priest. Can you imagine giving up your sex life and then once a week people come in to tell you the details and highlights of theirs?

Thoughts of a Mason's Wife

How many wives of Masons have ever given much thought,

To the wonderful biblical lessons that Masonry has taught.

Have you asked yourself this question, when you sit alone at night?

While hubby is away at lodge: is my reasoning straight and right?

I know the nights are lonely and long, but this question has come to me,

"If my husband weren't a Mason, what kind of man would he be?"

I know nothing of their secret work, but this much I understand,

That the lessons taught in Masonry have made a better man.

"If my husband weren't a Mason, what kind of man would he be?"

They call us Masonic widows, I've been one for many a year,

I've spoken my piece on lonely nights, and berated my hubby dear.

But, then again, I regret my words, and with wisdom try to see,

"If my husband weren't a Mason, what kind of man would he be?"

So I try to be a patient wife, as alone I meditate,

And see his point, as he leaves for lodge, with these words,

"I won't be late".

Some say that men make Masonry, and this I understand,

But, deep in my heart I still maintain, "That Masonry makes the man."

And as we journey the highway together, to the inner things of life,

May their teachings go on forever.

            Sincerely, A Mason's Wife

Brethren if you see any additional changes that need to be made please let me know as this is a work-in-progress and subject to change.  Also Brothers please forward this info to other Masonic Publications to publish if possible.  WE MUST ALL WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND MAKE THIS PROGRAM WORK.

Brethren and Friends all,
Brethren please pass this information on to members in your areas as we are still in search of equipment and assistance in funding the program.  Last years events from May 21st thru December 31 cost approximately $150,000 most of which was in in-kind donations from  Businesses and other Non-Masonic Organizations. These expenses were dental assistance, printing, additional kits for families, equipment use, surgical gloves, and other material needed to be successful.  Total Number of children and adults processed was 2,966.  Total number of missing children for the year ending 12/31/05 was 195 children unaccounted for at years end.  The total for years 2000 thru 2005 "unaccounted for = 996"    For year 2006 to date 70 children 70 children have gone thru the program.
The goal for 2006 is 12,000 to 15,000 Children or adults with disabilities.  The 5 year goal is 10% of the population of Children between the ages of 3 and 15 or 150,000 in Washington State.  The 10 year goal is 30% of the Children state wide or approximately 500,000 Children.
Brethren, these goals are attainable if we all work together as a Masonic Family and continue to partner with other organizations and businesses in the community.  The cost for 150,000 children is approximately $1,000,000 this includes equipment replacement and other essential equipment which is needed.  The cost for 500,000 children would be an annual expense of somewhere between $4,000,000 to $5,000,000.  WE CAN Do IT These are goals, (not etched in stone) but a real possibility if we properly work with business and Community Organizations to raise the funds required and form a Partnership with the Communities.
